Activities like streaming 4K and HD video content (like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime), online gaming, and use of doorbell and security cameras can use a large amount of data.

Data usage FAQs
Have more questions about using your data? Here are some answers:
Are there restrictions on how I can use my internet connection?
All data plans are subject to the Acceptable Use Policy, including potential actions for abuse. The Acceptable Use Policy prohibits activities that negatively impacts network performance for you or other customers. Examples include the use of servers, or file-sharing applications consuming extreme amounts of data that could impede traffic flow for your immediate area.
How do I know how much data I have used?
We've got several great ways to help you keep track of your household's usage. The Data Usage Meter is available on cox.com and on the Cox app. Cox app users also have the ability to add a miniature meter widget directly to their smartphone's home screen! Panoramic Wifi customers can use the Panoramic Wifi app to see which devices are using the most data. Based on your notification preferences, we'll also attempt to notify you via email, SMS, and browser notification when you reach 75%, 90%, 100% and 110% of your data plan.
Do I have a data plan and what happens if I go over it?
All of our residential internet plans include 1.25 terabytes (1,280 gigabytes) of data at no additional cost. If you go over, no sweat. We’ll automatically add 50 gigabytes of data for $10 to your next bill. That's enough for about 15 hours of streaming HD video. If you use that 50 gigabytes, we automatically add another 50 gigabytes for $10 and so on until you reach our $100 limit of data overage charges or until your next usage cycle begins.
First month going over? You'll find a one-time, courtesy credit for each $10 charge on your next bill.
Do other Internet providers have data plans based on usage?
Yes, most ISPs have similar policies in place.
Am I able to make changes to my data plan?
Our Additional Data Plans do not have any long-term commitments, so you’re always able to make the choice that’s right for you.
Is unlimited data included with Gigablast and Ultimate internet tiers?
Like all internet tiers, Gigablast and Ultimate tiers come with 1.25 TB (1,280 GB) of data. If you think you need more than 1.25 TB of data, you can add the Unlimited Additional Data Plan.
I don’t think I am receiving my data usage notifications.
Please make sure your email address and cell phone number are correct in the My Profile section by following the steps listed above on this page.
How much data do I need now that I am working from home a lot?
Since data usage has increased as a result of many more people working from home and sheltering in place due to COVID-19, we have increased our data plan allowance by 25% to 1.25 TB (1,280 GB). For most people, this increase is more than enough to cover any extra usage. We encourage you to visit the data usage calculator to get a sense of how much data you’ll need.
