From African-American mathematicians to baseball players, celebrate Women's History Month with five empowering shows and films.
March is Women's History Month, a chance to celebrate the inspirational females who shaped our nation and the world. And, whether you're watching with your mother or your daughter, your partner or your BFF, Hollywood has some fabulously feminist treats in store.
Here are five of our favorite movies and shows to educate and entertain. Just say the name of the show or film in your Contour TV Remote with Voice Command.
1. Hidden Figures
African-American women are all too often erased from history. Based on the life of pioneering mathematician Katherine Johnson, "Hidden Figures" tells how a group of talented women overcame prejudice to help launch astronaut John Glenn into orbit—and America into the Space Age.
2. Reasonable Doubt
Jax, played by Emayatzy Corinealdi, is a brilliant and fearless defense attorney in Los Angeles who competes with the justice system at every chance she gets. She constantly struggles with the moral balance between her profession and her personal faith and principles that come from her being a Black woman.
3. Mayfair Witches
Featuring Alexandra Daddario - This American supernatural thriller drama television series follows a neurosurgeon who discovers she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches. She must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.
4. A League of Their Own (2022)
If you loved the 1992 film, then you'll be sure to love this adaption. Same name with new characters and storylines, about the formation of a World War II-era women's professional baseball team.
5. Erin Brockovich
Erin Brockovich is a 2000 American biographical legal film that tells the true story of Erin Brockovich, played by Julia Roberts, who fought against the energy corporation Pacific Gas and Electric Company regarding its culpability for the Hinkley groundwater contaminatio incident. This film was a box-office hit and gained tremendous critical acclaim.
