Travel Show Destinations That Give Us Wanderlust

October 29, 2019

Here’s where you should vacation next.

Are you sitting in front of the TV watching the Travel Channel wondering where you should go next? If you’ve been struck by wanderlust, here are some beautiful destinations the Travel Channel has showcased as must-see places around the US.

Feel the Ocean Breeze

When you picture your ideal summer vacation, do you envision a light ocean breeze and warm sand at your feet? If so, these Travel Channel-approved destinations are for you:

Kauna'oa Bay, Hawaii

Step into a postcard when you visit the Big Island of Hawaii. While you’ll find gorgeous, crystal-blue beaches on any of Hawaii’s islands, the Travel Channel has Kauna’oa Bay listed as a top choice. Home to white sand, palm trees and calm water, it’s easy to see why this crescent-shaped beach is a dream come true. The catch? Unless you are staying at the resort that maintains the beach, access is limited. Plan ahead so you don’t miss out.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

If you’re looking for a beach destination the whole family can enjoy, Myrtle Beach has plenty to offer. This town is best known for three things: the beach, food and golf. Myrtle Beach has over 60 miles of beach to explore, 100 golf courses to play and more than 1,000 restaurants to try. So, whether you want to sunbathe or practice your swing, you’ll find everything you need in one sunny location.

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Looking for a quiet getaway? Look no further than the peaceful whaling community of Nantucket, Massachusetts. Dubbed by the natives as the “Faraway Land,” Nantucket has managed to keep its rustic charm free of traffic and city chaos. Its historic district in the center of the island contains cobblestone streets, a harbor and unique architecture. In addition to sightseeing, you and your family can also enjoy kayaking, shopping and biking near the beach. With so much to do and see, it’s no wonder this quaint destination made the Travel Channel’s list.

San Diego, California

For some fun in the sun, travel to the west coast. San Diego was named, “America’s finest city,” and it’s not without reason. It has a little bit of everything for everyone without all the chaos of its neighboring city, Los Angeles. You can spend all day on the beach surfing, lounging, playing volleyball or reading a book. When you’ve caught enough sun, head to a local taco shop for Mexican food that will hit the spot. Whether you’re traveling with the whole family or a couple friends, you’re bound to have a laid-back good time in this beach town.

Walk Through Nature

Tired of all the hustle and bustle of the busy city? Escape into nature at these picturesque national parks:

Yosemite National Park, California

Take in a slice of the majestic Sierra Mountains when you visit one of the most beloved national parks in the nation. Yosemite National Park is 1,000 square feet of wilderness that will take your breathe away. It’s not only one of the most visited national parks, but according to the Travel Channel it’s also the most revisited. Boasting meadows, waterfalls and protected wildlife, Yosemite National Park is a place everyone should experience once or twice in their lifetime.

Acadia National Park, Maine

Travel to the east coast to find yourself immersed in everything nature has to offer. Acadia National Park has it all: mountains, forests, streams and ponds, wetlands, meadows and beaches. The park is located mostly on Mount Desert Island, but also extends to the Schoodic Peninsula, Isle au Haut and other surrounding islands. Take in the crisp Maine air as you hike, walk, cycle or horseback ride through the park. You can also enjoy fishing, boating, skiing or wildlife watching on your trip. You’ll have it all when you visit this natural wonder.

Enjoy the Desert Sun

If you’re yearning for some fun in the sun, then these hot desert vacations may be just what the doctor ordered:

Sedona, Arizona

Tap into your spiritual side by experiencing the power of the vortex said to be found inside Sedona’s red rock formations. If that’s not really your thing, don’t worry. Sedona is much more than a spiritual guide to your inner workings, it’s also a geological backdrop that will inspire you to get out and explore. You can hike or go for a leisurely drive through the surrounding red rock formations, and spend all day taking photos. Whether you believe in the vortex or not, this majestic desert area will enchant you.

Palm Springs, California

For a resort-style vacation that keeps you cool while still allowing you to enjoy the hot desert sun, head to Palm Springs. Surrounded by four mountain ranges, this enclave offers history, shopping, art, golf and a place to do absolutely nothing but lounge by the pool. If that sounds like your idea of a vacation, let the wanderlust lead you there.

Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

Imagine recreating something out of an old western film and riding through New Mexico’s high plains on the back of a horse. Make that picture a reality when you visit the Ghost Ranch in Santa Fe. Out in the middle of nowhere, the abandoned ranch is located on the edge of the Colorado Plateau, surrounded by plain and vertical rock. For a small fee, wranglers will guide you through the landscape made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe. It’s not your typical vacation, but it’s an experience the Travel Channel promises you’ll never forget.
