Travel Plans Canceled? How to Make Life a Vacation in 2020

July 13, 2020

Vacation, staycation. Enjoy summer no matter where you are.

Summer days are finally here. While your travel plans may be limited or canceled due to COVID-19, we’re here to remind you that you don’t need to go far to make the most of the season. This summer take some time to stop and enjoy the simple things in life.

Go Camping

Driving away from the chaos and noise of the bustling city to spend a few nights in nature can recharge the soul. Instead of setting your alarm in the morning, wake to the sound of birds chirping and enjoy quality family time around a campfire in the evening. Use Cox Contour to have an outdoor movie night under the stars. Camping in nature can help remove everyday distractions, so you can get back to what matters the most: spending time with your family.

Take a Hike

Hiking is a great way to get some fresh air, decompress and explore the great outdoors, all while social distancing. Use the All Trails app to find suggested hikes near you. Take a stroll on flat land with the family or challenge yourself by climbing the highest peak. If you’re itching to get away, walking through nature can give you the feeling of escape you may be craving. You don’t need to hop on a plane to explore – just strap on your hiking boots and set off on an adventure.

Be a Tourist in Your Own City

It’s easy to forget all the magic your city has to offer once you’ve lived somewhere for a while. Whether you live a destination spot like Miami, Florida or near the picturesque mountains of Denver, Colorado, every city is home to something special. This summer put on your tourist hat and explore your own town. You can revisit spots you haven’t been in a while or research hidden gems you had no idea about. Make it a game by downloading the Geocaching app and discover clues to hidden notes and treasures around your area.

Spend Time with Family and Friends

One thing quarantine has taught us is the importance of connecting with our loved ones. Even if you can’t plan a family vacation or visit a friend living in another country, you can still spend time with the people you love. Cook together on Zoom, have virtual happy hours or dance together over Skype, and chat as though you’re in the same room using WhatsApp. With a strong wifi connection, you don’t have to miss spending time with the special people in your life.

Try Different Cuisines

Some people travel for adventure, while others travel for food. If you’re a foodie, the only way to truly experience a different culture is by eating like a local. You may not be able to travel the world right now, but you can bring the world to your dinner plate with the Food Network. Pick a country and a cuisine, then stream the content to cook alongside master chefs. If cooking isn’t your forte, find a takeout restaurant that serves authentic dishes from places you plan to visit one day.

Enjoy Every Sunset (And Maybe a Sunrise)

There’s something about watching the sun dip below the horizon that makes people stop and appreciate the moment. And on a clear evening, the sunset can take your breath away. Make an effort to catch one, two or all them this summer. Plus, if you’re an early riser or just want to start your day off right, look to the east to watch the sunrise in the morning. It’s a good reminder that no matter what the day brings, it will always begin and end with a bit of sunshine.

Life’s what you make it. Even if you’re staying put and summer plans are on hold, make every day a vacation and find paradise right where you are.
