September 01, 2022

Watch the TV series with the most Emmy nominations in 2022

Are you all caught up on the TV series that received multiple Emmy nominations before the upcoming ceremony? The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards air Sept. 12, 2022. Here's a guide to watching these acclaimed shows based on what you're in the mood to watch.

Abbott Elementary

Best for: When you need a pick me up

Watch on: ABC/Hulu

This feel-good sitcom about an underfunded Philadelphia elementary school scored seven Emmy nominations for its smash debut season. Quinta Brunson, the show's creator, writer and star, leads a stellar ensemble in uplifting episodes that are sweet but never saccharine.

Better Call Saul

Best for: When you're nostalgic for Breaking Bad

Watch on: AMC

One of the rare examples of a spinoff that's just as good as the original series, this expansion of the Breaking Bad universe aired its final episode this year after six seasons. The show went 0 for 39 at previous Emmy Awards, so 2022 may be the year for star Bob Odenkirk, who plays darkly funny Jimmy McGill. This year, the series is vying for seven awards, including Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor.

Insecure

Best for: When you're looking to celebrate friendship

Watch on: HBO Max

Series creator and star Issa Rae wrapped the fifth and final season of her groundbreaking comedy about the friendship between two Black women in Los Angeles on a high note — with the authenticity and impeccable soundtrack it's known for. The chemistry between Issa and her best friend Molly (Yvonne Orji), and the beauty and messiness of their relationship, makes the show a must watch.

MAID

Best for: When you need some inspiration

Watch on: Netflix

Based on the true story of best-selling author Stephanie Land, MAID explores the moving journey of Alex, a young woman who flees an abusive relationship and finds low-paying work cleaning houses to support herself and her daughter. Emmy-nominated Margaret Qualley depicts the harsh realities of living in poverty, alongside her real-life mother Andie MacDowell (as Alex's mom).

Only Murders in the Building

Best for: When you want that cozy, fall feeling

Watch on: Hulu

This mystery series about a true crime podcast set in an iconic building on Manhattan's Upper West Side has no shortage of grisly murder scenes. But its autumnal hues and delightful knitwear-clad stars Selena Gomez (Mabel), Steve Martin (Charles), and Martin Short (Oliver) deliver toasty comfort.

Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy

Best for: When you've got the travel bug

Watch on: CNN

To ease your end-of-summer blues, indulge in this travel and food show featuring charismatic host and Academy Award-nominee Stanley Tucci. And maybe cook up some rigatoni all'amatriciana to eat along at home on Tucci's pasta tour.

Succession

Best for: When you're looking for an intense family drama

Watch on: HBO Max

If you think your family's dynamics are dysfunctional, watching the high-powered Roys duke it out might convince you otherwise. As media mogul and patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and his four adult children navigate the succession of family business Waystar Royco, it's hard to turn away from all the backstabbing, manipulation and power plays.

Stranger Things

Best for: When you want something spooky

Watch on: Netflix

A global cultural phenomenon featuring brave kids fighting monsters, '80s nostalgia and super talented actors — what's not to love? Catch up before the upcoming fifth and final season.

Yellowjackets

Best for: When you want a coming-of-age story with a dark twist

Watch on: Showtime

This psychological drama about a stranded 1990s girls soccer team may just have you covering your eyes or hiding under the covers. Melanie Lynskey (Shauna), Christina Ricci (Misty), and Juliette Lewis (Natalie) co-star as some of the teammates who may — or may not — resort to cannibalism before their wilderness rescue.
