5 Things We’re Excited to Experience at SXSW

May 04, 2018

What do you call it when almost 450,000 people converge around tech, film, innovation and music? SXSW.

They say that everything is bigger in Texas and SXSW is no exception. A complex event to categorize, SXSW is a giant festival, showcase, conference, networking opportunity, red-carpet event and party packaged and delivered to attendees under the mirage of a simple, four-letter acronym.

A ten-day event consisting of more than 422,000 participants from 95 countries, SXSW is an exciting melting pot of technologies, cultures and ideas that always results in some pretty remarkable things. If you do the math, it actually results in millions of pretty remarkable things, but we’re going to narrow it down to our five favorites.

Here are some of the things we are really excited to experience at SXSW this year.

The Power of Connectivity

It’s no secret that we live in a world where connectivity is at an unprecedented level. And it’s not calming down anytime soon. Connectivity and digital interaction are being integrated into day-to-day objects that already populate our lives – cars, appliances, clothes, homes – you name it. Aside from the cool technology and new connected devices we will undoubtedly experience at SXSW, we’re most excited to hear what people are saying about the power of connectivity. And yes, there is a LOT of power behind connectivity that is worth discussing. These connected devices are creating the opportunity for seamless interactions in daily life, making it easier for people to simplify and focus on the connections that matter most.

Smart Home Technology

Smart Homes are no longer the ‘homes of the future,’ but the homes of the present. Home automation systems, like Cox Homelife, are the foundations of smart home ecosystems, accompanied by a myriad of connected devices that do everything from allowing you to lock your doors and windows with your iPhone to connecting with your doctor from living room chair (yes, you can actually do that with Trapollo). By 2020, it’s estimated that there will be more than 55 connected devices in every home – now what were we saying about the power of connectivity?

VR/AR

Did you ever think you’d live in a world where virtual reality became actual reality? Where you could be sitting in one place, but genuinely feel as though you’re in another? I know I didn’t. The SXSW Virtual Cinema is just one of many ways that SXSW showcases how VR and AR technologies are enhancing our ability to perceive the world around us, and in most instances, completely redefining how we experience it.
