Stay Connected During the Holidays with 5 Troubleshooting Tips

December 08, 2021

The little things, like a strong internet connection, make the holidays even brighter. During this most wonderful time of the year, we’re here to help you stay connected to those both far and near.

Battling with your internet connection can be frustrating, especially if you’re hosting guests or trying to enjoy new gadgets during the holiday season. Sometimes, addressing issues with your internet will require the assistance of a qualified Cox technician. But often, you can quickly resolve your issues from home.

Here are five tips for maximizing your internet.

Move your router to a central location
Prepare for a full house this holiday season. Wifi works by sending radio signals between devices, and those signals lessen over long distances. So make sure your router is up-to-date, near the location where most people will use the internet, and free from obstacles.

Download Cox Elite Gamer
If the gamer in your house is looking to deck out their set-up this holiday season, we have great news. Cox Elite Gamer automatically finds a faster path for your PC game data, reducing the lag, ping spikes and jitter that stand in the way of winning. If you have Cox Panoramic Wifi, Elite Gamer is already included. Just download it to your PC to experience faster gaming.

Make use of an Ethernet cable
Internet works best when you’re hard-wired. To improve your connection and speed while holiday shopping online, connect directly to your router with an Ethernet cable or use these wifi pods to boost your signal.

Use the Cox Wifi app to monitor bandwidth use
While it’s exciting to collect new Bluetooth-enabled devices for your home, they can hamper your wifi. New devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may operate on the same frequency as your router and interfere with its signal. You can monitor various devices and pause them when they’re not needed on your Cox Wifi app.

Upgrade your devices
Sometimes, troubles with your internet speed are due to upper speed limits of your phone, tablet, gaming system or other device. Consider adding upgraded devices to your holiday wish list.
