Google's Budget Pixel 8a Phone Offers Next-Gen Features

The new device includes seven years of software updates, one of the few budget phones to offer this much support out-of-the-box.

The phone is also the first Pixel device that parents can set up directly for their children. However, Google recommends that parental controls be set up so that kids will use their new Pixel 8a responsibily.

Here's a look at what you get with the Pixel 8a from Cox Mobile:

• Screen: The Pixel 8a features a 6.1 inch screen and uses Google's Actua display, which is brighter than previous versions and offers better OLED technology.

• Performance: The Pixel 8a uses Google's Tensor G3 chip and includes 8 GB of RAM, which should be more than sufficient for most users' apps and games.

• Battery: The Pixel 8a's adaptive 4,492 mAh battery can last for more than 24 hours of standard use. On Extreme Battery Saver mode, it's possible to get up to 72 hours of battery life.

• Charging: You can use a USB-C cable for 18-watt charging or wireless Qi standard charging at 7.5 watts. In addition, the device supports both 4G LTE and 5G networks. 

• 64 MP main camera on the back, with video capture up to 4k at 60 fps.

• 13 MP ultrawide back camera, ideal for landscape or panoramic shots.

• 13 MP front camera, with video capture up to 4k at 30 fps.

• The Tensor G3 chip works with the Titan M2 security chip to help protect user data. Even when the phone boots, data remains encrypted until users enter the correct pattern or PIN. In addition, the device's firmware cannot be changed without the correct PIN or pattern.

• The Pixel 8a also includes a built-in virtual private network (VPN). This allows device owners to keep their location and actions hidden from potential cybercriminals, even when they're using Wifi hotspots.

• Gemini: Google's Gemini AI assistant can help with everything from brainstorming ideas to summarizing recent emails to planning your next vacation.

• Best Take: This lets you create the perfect group shot. You can take multiple photos, then select the best expressions for everyone from the different takes.

• Magic Editor: This tool lets you easily reposition, remove or resize subjects in your photos to make them stand out, or can generate content to complete a picture.

• Magic Audio Eraser: This helps get easily rid of distracting sounds in your videos such as wind, crowd noise or traffic.

• Circle to Search: Want to learn when you're using an app? You don't have to exit — you can just circle, tap or scribble on a video, image or piece of text, and Google's AI does the rest.
