Bright Futures and Faster Speeds for Students Who Need it Most

June 25, 2018

We returned to where it all began to announce faster speeds for Connect2Compete.

Pat Esser, president of Cox Communications, returned to where it all began to make a major announcement about Connect2Compete.  In front of an eager crowd at a San Diego Boys and Girls Club, Esser announced the company increased internet speeds for families enrolled in the Connect2Compete program by 50 percent, effective immediately at no additional cost.

Increasing the speeds is a critical step in closing the digital divide.  7 out of 10 teachers assign online homework and faster speeds will help these kids compete in the classroom even more.

More than 350,000 people have benefited from Connect2Compete, Cox’s discounted internet service for families with at least one K-12 student living in public housing or qualifying for a free or reduced school lunch.

With Technology Centers built in more than 100 Boys and Girls Clubs, the 10,000+ schools powered by Cox Business and the continued expansion and improvement of Connect2Compete, Esser’s passion and determination to build on Cox’s history of ensuring students and families have access to technology is clear.

“We see a very bright future for these kids, and we want to be part of it,” said Esser.  “We will continue to invest as a company, that will not stop.”
