After the cable modem is successfully registered on the network, a single solid white LED illuminates continuously to indicate that the cable modem is online and fully operational.

Important: After connecting the modem for the first time, wait 10-15 minutes before attempting to complete the WiFi setup or get online. Do not unplug the modem from power or factory reboot the modem during the initial 10-15 minute firmware download and modem registration process.

The Technicolor CGM4141 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • TEL 1 / TEL 2 - Connects to home telephone wiring and to conventional telephones or fax machines. TEL 1 is used for the first line of phone service and TEL 2 is for a second line of service.
  • ETHERNET - Two ports are available to connect to the 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports on your computer or other device. It is recommended that devices be hardwired if possible. Only one port is active at a time.
  • RESET - Use this button to reboot the modem or restore all settings to factory defaults. Factory resets result in the loss of all settings. The Reset button is recessed to prevent accidental resets. To reboot the modem, press and hold the indented Reset button for three to four seconds. To restore factory defaults, press and hold the indented Reset button for more than 10 seconds or until the front panel LED flashes.
  • CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet.
  • POWER - Connects the modem to the power cord.

To help prevent errors during installation, connect the coax cable to a cable outlet first, then connect the power cord to an electrical outlet.


MAC Address and Network Name (SSID)

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Initial installation requires that the Network Name (SSID) and password be changed. The Network Name (SSID) and password listed on the bottom of the device are only used to connect to the modem during the initial install. Technicolor recommends that a single Network Name (SSID) is used for the CGM4141 because the modem automatically chooses the best network for each connected device. Ensure all WiFi-ready devices recognize the single Network Name (SSID).

Note: If you are not automatically directed to a setup screen during your initial install, then open a web browser and go to www.cox.com/activate and follow the steps to set up your WiFi network.


The lights indicate the current status of your WiFi modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Modem Light Color Status Problem


Black Line

No light Device is off or in Power Save Mode No power. Verify that the power supply and electrical outlet connections are secure. Also make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch.

Note: Technicolor CGM4141 Panoramic WiFi Modems that are operating on a battery back-up will not automatically recognize when AC power has been restored. The modem must be manually restarted to operate on AC power after a power outage.

Solid Red Offline Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
