Setting Up WiFi With the Panoramic Wifi Gateway

Solution

Use the steps below to access the admin portal to set up or change the WiFi network name and password for the following gateways.

  • Arris TG1682 with item number DAR168C
  • Technicolor CGM4141 with item numbers DTC4141 or DT4141

Note: There are three methods to set up WiFi with the Panoramic Wifi Gateway: the Panoramic Wifi app, the web portal at wifi.cox.com, and the admin portal. Cox recommends using either the app and web portal.

1

Connect to the gateway through one of the following methods.

  • Look at the label on the bottom of the gateway, then use the default SSID and password to connect to the WiFi.
  • Use an Ethernet cable to connect one end to the back of the gateway, and the other end to a computer.
2

Open a web browser, then clear the web browser's cache and cookies.

Note: If you're unable to get online, then verify that your gateway is activated on the Cox network. Visit www.cox.com/activate before continuing.

3

To access the admin portal in a web browser, go to 192.168.0.1.

Note: On some mobile devices, the web browser may require you to enter the full URL of https://192.168.0.1.

4

In the open dialog box, sign in with the following steps.

  1. In the Username field, enter admin.
  2. In the Password field, in all lowercase letters, enter password.
5

Click Log In.

Result: The Change Password window displays.

6

Update the admin portal password with the following steps.

  1. In the Current Password field, enter password in lowercase.
  2. In the New Password field, enter a new password.

Note: The new password must be a minimum of eight alphanumeric characters, without spaces, and is case-sensitive.

  3. In the Re-enter New Password field, enter the new password again.

Result: An Alert pop-up window displays the message Changes saved successfully. Please login with the new password.

  4. On the Alert, click OK.

  2. In the Password field, enter the new password that was selected in step 6.
8

From the Gateway Home window, complete the following steps.

  1. On the left-hand side menu, click Connection.

  2. Under the Private Wi-Fi Network Configuration section, in the Network Name (SSID) field, enter a new Network Name.

Note: CoxWiFi cannot be used as the new network name because CoxWiFi hotspots use that SSID already.

  3. Scroll down and in the Network Password field, enter a new Password.
  4. Click Save Settings.

Notes:

  • Guest WiFi networks are not available.
  • To provide the best WiFi experience, the Panoramic Wifi Gateway uses band steering, which automatically optimizes which WiFi band a device connects to.
  • To enable band steering, Cox recommends that a single network name is used because the gateway will automatically choose the best network for each connected device.
  • Ensure all WiFi-ready devices recognize the single network name and password.
  • See Using a Single WiFi Network Name and Password for more information.
