Resetting a Primary User Password on Cox.com

Solution

Use the following steps to reset the password for the primary User ID that is associated with your account.

To reset the password for a secondary user, refer to Managing Secondary Users in My Account for additional information.

Important: Changing or resetting a Cox user password may affect the ability to login to a number of other applications. Before proceeding, refer to Applications Affected by Changing Cox Login User ID / Password to review a list of applications that may be affected by changing a Cox.net password.

  1. From the Cox.com home page, click Sign In My Account.
  2. Next to Forgot User ID, click Password?.
  3. On the Enter User ID page, enter your Primary User ID that you created during your original Cox.com account registration in the User ID field.
  4. Click Next.

    Note: Pressing Enter will not progress you to the next page. You must click Next to continue.

On the Password Reset Options page, click one of the following validation methods to reset your password. 

  • Send Email - An email sent to your primary contact email address containing instructions on how to select a new password. These instructions must be completed within 48 hours in order to reset your password.
  • Answer Secret Question - An Answer Secret Question section displays the Secret Question attached to your account. Enter the answer in the Secret Answer field, then click Next.

    Note: For accounts without a recovery email address on file, only Answer Secret Question displays. If the secret answer has been forgotten,contact us to either reset the password or obtain the Account Holder User ID.

  1. Enter a new password in the New Password field.

    Notes:
    • Password guidelines display on the right of the New Password field.
    • A password strength meter shows the security of the new password you select.

  2. Click Finish Password Reset.

    Result: Your password has been reset. You will receive a confirmation email or letter as a result of changing your account settings.
