  • The Netgear CM500 is a DOCSIS 3.0 device.
  • The highest service level is based on wired connectivity speeds.
  • After the cable modem is successfully registered on the network, the Power, Upstream, Downstream, and Internet indicators continuously indicate that the cable modem is online and fully operational.

The Netgear CM500 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • Power - Connect the supplied power cord to this port.
  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet cable.

    Note: This is a LAN Gigabit Ethernet port.
  • RESET - Use this button in the unlikely event that you want to restore the default factory settings. This button is recessed to prevent accidental resets of your modem.
  • Cable / Internet - Connect your coaxial cable line to this port.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the device's manufacturer.

Troubleshooting

The lights indicate the current status of your gateway. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Power

Power light
Off No power - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Green None
Red The cable modem is too warm and might overheat. Fix:
  1. Disconnect the power adapter.
  2. Wait a couple of minutes to let the cable modem cool down.
  3. Make sure that the cable modem is placed in a vertical position.
  4. Ensure the cable modem is placed in a location with good ventilation.
  5. Reconnect the power adapter.
Downstream

Off Downstream channel inactive - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Amber None - the connection from the computer to the Internet is established on one channel.
Blinking Amber Scanning for the downstream channel - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Green None - the connection from the computer to the Internet is established on multiple channels.
Upstream

Off Upstream channel inactive - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking Amber Scanning for the upstream channel - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Amber None - the connection from the Internet to the computer is established on one channel.
Solid Green None - the Internet connection to the computer was established on more than one channel.
Internet

Internet light
Off Modem Offline - Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Green None - Modem operational
Blinking Green None - Modem receiving DHCP information
Ethernet

Ethernet light
Off A device is not connected to the Ethernet port on the back. - Connect a device to the Ethernet port on the back.
Solid Green None - A device is connected to the Ethernet port at 1000 Mbps.
Solid Amber None - A device is connected to the Ethernet port at 10/100 Mbps.
Blinking Green or Amber None - The ethernet port is processing traffic
