After the cable modem successfully registers on the network, the Power, Upstream, Downstream, and Internet indicators illuminate continuously to indicate that the modem is online and fully operational.

The Netgear C7800 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • Power - Connect the supplied power cord to this port.
  • Ethernet - Four Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports. Only one port is active at a time.
  • Reset - Use this button in the unlikely event that you want to restore the default factory settings. This button is recessed to prevent accidental resets of your modem.
  • Cable / coaxial - Connect your coaxial cable line to this port.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Troubleshooting

The modem lights indicate the current status of your cable modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

The cable modem is too warm and might overheat:

  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Wait a couple of minutes to let the cable modem cool down.
  • Make sure that the cable modem is placed in a vertical position.
  • Make sure that the cable modem is placed in a location with good ventilation.
  • Reconnect the power adapter.
Downstream
Blinking GreenScanning for downstream channel. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid AmberNone. Connection established on one channel.
Solid GreenNone. Operating on more than one channel.
OffDownstream channel inactive. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem. If cable is OK and modem reset does not work, contact
Upstream
OffUpstream channel inactive. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking GreenScanning for upstream channel. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid AmberNone. Connection established on one channel.
Solid GreenNone. Operating on more than one channel.
Internet
OffModem offline. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking GreenNone. Scanning for configuration parameters. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.

None. This button lets you use WPS to join the WiFi network without typing the WiFi password. The WPS LED blinks during this process and then lights solid.
