After the cable modem successfully registers on the network, the Power, Upstream, Downstream, and Internet indicators continuously indicate that the modem is online and fully operational. For more details, refer to the Modem Lights section.

The Netgear C6900 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • Ethernet LAN Ports - Provides internet access to a single device. Only one port is active at a time.
  • Coaxial Cable Connector (Cable / Internet - Connect your cable line to this port.)
  • Reset Button - Use this button if you want to restore the default factory settings. This button is recessed to prevent accidental resets of your modem.
  • Power Adapter Input - Connect the supplied power cord to this port.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the device's manufacturer.

Troubleshooting

The modem lights indicate the current status of your cable modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Power

Off No power. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Green None
Red The cable modem is too warm and might overheat.
  • Disconnect the power adapter.
  • Wait a couple of minutes to let the cable modem cool down.
  • Make sure that the cable modem is placed in a vertical position.
  • Ensure the cable modem is placed in a location with good ventilation.
  • Reconnect the power adapter.
Downstream

Blinking Amber Scanning for a downstream channel. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid Amber None. Connection established on one channel.
Blinking Green Scanning for additional downstream channels.
Solid Green None. Operating on more than one channel.
Off The downstream channel is inactive. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Upstream

Off The upstream channel is inactive. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking Amber Scanning for the upstream channel. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking Green Scanning for additional upstream channels.
Solid Amber None. Connection established on one channel.
Solid Green None. Operating on more than one channel.
Internet

Off Modem offline. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Blinking Green None. Scanning for configuration parameters. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Slow Blinking Amber and Green The modem router reached the traffic meter limit. (For information about the traffic meter, see Monitor Internet Traffic on page 63 of the User Manual).
Solid Green None. Operational.
2.4 GHz

Off 2.4 GHz radio off.
Solid Green None. 2.4 GHz radio on.
5 GHz

5 GHz
Off 5 GHz radio off.
Solid Green None. 5 GHz radio on.
Ethernet

Off A device is not connected to the Ethernet port on the back. Connect a device to the Ethernet port on the back.
Blinking Green None - An Ethernet port is transmitting or receiving data.
Solid Green None - A device is connected to the Ethernet port.
WiFi On/Off

Off The WiFi signal is off. Connect a device to the Ethernet port on the back.
Solid Green The WiFi signal is on.
WPS

Off The WPS button has not been activated.
Blinking Green None. This button lets you use WPS to join the WiFi network without typing the WiFi password. The WPS LED blinks during the process and then lights solid.
Solid Green None. WPS LED blinks to solid after the button has been pushed.
