After the gateway is successfully registered on the network, the Power, Downstream, Upstream, and Online indicators continuously indicate that the gateway is online and fully operational.

The Motorola MG8725 has the following ports and buttons available on the back of the gateway.

  • ETHERNET LAN 1 2 3 4 - Connects to Ethernet-capable devices; LAN4 is a 2.5 Gbps port
  • COAX - Connects to a coaxial cable
  • POWER - Connects to the power adapter
  • RESET - Press and hold this recessed button for at least 20 seconds to restore to factory defaults and reboot the gateway

Note: WPS button is on top of the unit.




MAC Address / WiFi Network Label

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the device's manufacturer. This label is located on the bottom of the device and contains the default Network Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Security Key (Preshared Key).

Troubleshooting

The lights indicate the current status of your gateway. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

OffNo power. Verify power supply connections and electrical outlets. Ensure the outlet is not connected to a switch. Ensure the power adapter is securely connected to the power jack on the back of the modem.

Blinking BlueNegotiating multiple downstream bonded channels. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid GreenNone. One downstream channel is in use.
Blinking GreenScanning for downstream channels. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
UpstreamSolid BlueNone. Multiple upstream channels are in use.
Blinking BlueNegotiating multiple upstream bonded channels. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
Solid GreenNone. One upstream channel is in use.
Blinking GreenScanning for an upstream channel. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
OffNo upstream channels are in use. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
OnlineSolid GreenNone. The modem is online with DOCSIS 3.0.
Solid BlueNone. The modem is online with DOCSIS 3.1.
Blinking GreenNone. The modem is registering a connection.
OffThe modem is offline. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
WLANOffWiFi is not enabled. If using WiFi, connect via WiFi using the SSID and password on the bottom of the modem.
BlinkingNone. Data is being transferred over the WiFi connection.
OnNone. WiFi is enabled.
WPSSolid GreenNone. WPS is in discovery mode.
OffNone. WPS configuration is successful.
