Managing Contour Settings Preferences

Solution

Perform the following steps to change settings for the Contour box.

Press the CONTOUR button on the Cox remote.

Result: The Main Menu displays.

Use the right arrow to highlight the Settings gear icon, then press OK.

Result: The Settings menu displays.

Press the down arrow to highlight Preferences, then press OK.

Use the steps in the table below to turn features on or off, or change options.

Auto-pad DVR recordings
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Auto Pad Recordings, the press OK.

    Result: The option toggles On and Off.
Change the background darkness level.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Background Darkness Level, then press OK.
  3. Use the left and right arrows to set darkness level, then press OK.

    Note: Increasing the level will reduce the background image.
Change whether the mini guide displays over programming or compresses TV picture.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Display Mini Guide Over Video, then press OK to turn the setting on or off.
    • On – Mini guide displays over right third of TV picture.
    • Off – Mini guide displays as inset with full TV picture letter-boxed and compressed to about 2/3 width of screen.
Set or change Default Guide View.

For feature details, refer to Using Contour 2 Filters and Guide Views.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Default Guide View, then press OK to turn the feature on or off.
  3. Use the arrows to select a guide view to display when the GUIDE button is pressed.
Turn the Prefer Best Available Resolution feature on or off.
This feature was formerly known as Auto-Tune to HD.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Prefer Best Available Resolution, then press OK to turn the feature on or off.
Turn the display of "Because You Watched," Recommendations, recent apps, or recently viewed content on or off.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Recommendations Based on History, then press OK to turn the feature on or off.
Turn Notifications on or off.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Notifications.
  2. Highlight the notification type to change, then press OK to turn the feature on or off.
Turn scrolling text in the mini guide and mini search screen on or off.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Scrolling Text, then press OK to turn the feature on or off.

This feature is turned on by default.

Adjusting the Daily Update / Reboot window

Note: When one receiver is changed, it affects all the receivers.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Daily Update Time.
  3. Ask the customer to select one of the times based on their needs.


    Note: You can not cancel a pending reboot, only change the time to be more convenient for the customer.
Set the child-friendly guide.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight General.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Kids Zone.
    • Restrict Content by Age Range – Mini guide displays over right third of TV picture.
      • 10-12
      • 8-9
      • 5-7
      • 2-4
  • Allow Ability to Set Recordings – The customer can select On or Off to determine whether recordings can be set or not within Kids Zone.
  • Play the Next Episode  – The customer can select On or Off to determine whether the next episode of a TV show will automatically start playing or not.
  • Common Sense Media Ratings and Reviews – The customer can select On or Off to display the Common Sense Media age ratings and Parental Guides while in Kids Zone.
 Modify the look of text in the guide.
  1.  Use the down arrow to highlight General.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Enhanced Text Readability.
  3. Select On or Off.

After making changes, press LAST to return to the Settings menu or EXIT to return to watching TV.
