Managing an Internet Connection in MacOS

Solution

Need to set up an Internet connection on your Mac or renew your IP address to restore your lost Internet connection? Learn how to perform these tasks using Mac OS X.

Set Up an Internet Connection

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  2. From the View menu, click Network.
  3. From the Show pop-up window, click Built-in Ethernet.
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab.
  5. Ensure the Location drop-down says Automatic.
  6. From the Configure menu, select Using DHCP.
     
    Note: Cox provides the DHCP information automatically.
     
  7. Click Apply Now.
  8. Open a web browser to test your connection.

Release and Renew an IP Address

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  2. Click Network.
  3. Click Ethernet.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click the Renew DHCP Lease and then click TCP/IP.
  6. Click Renew DHCP Lease.
