WiFi Calling is a feature that allows you to make and receive calls over a WiFi network if cellular service is weak or unavailable. WiFi Calling doesn't turn on automatically, you need to manually activate it in the settings of your device.
The following guidelines must be met before enabling WiFi Calling on your device.
- You must have first set up an Enhanced 911 (e911) address to ensure your location displays automatically to a 911 dispatcher, see Updating Your WiFi-Calling Emergency Address for Enhanced 911, for further information.
- The smartphone must have HD Voice activated which is activated by default for some smartphones. If it is an older smartphone, they may need to activate HD Voice manually.
Note: Most older Android devices list HD Voice under the Advanced Calling setting.
- The smartphone must be able to access the Internet through a WiFi connection.
- With an iOS Smartphone, you must first connect to WiFi Calling in the US prior to traveling internationally.
WiFi Calling is available to you when you are outside of the United States, see International WiFi Calling on Your Cox Mobile Device for more details.
