Enable or Disable the Duress Code on the Touchscreen

The duress code is a silent alarm triggered by entering a specific four-digit code into the touchscreen or keypad to signify a danger / hostage situation in progress. The code can be used if an intruder forces you to arm / disarm your system or access your security settings. This code is not verified by Central Monitoring Station and police are dispatched immediately.

Disable Duress Code on the Touchscreen

Follow the steps below to disable the duress code.

From the Cox Homelife touchscreen Settings menu, tap Security then Manage Keypad Codes.

On the Manage Keypad Codes screen, tap Edit in the Duress field.

Tap Disable Duress Code.

Take note of the following messages before you enable your duress code.

  • Remember to verify you are entering the duress code only when you feel you are in danger. Accidently entering your duress code at the Touchscreen or keypad and confusing it with the master code causes false alarms and police are dispatched unnecessarily.
  • False alarms can lead to fines of hundreds of dollars from your city or town and even revocation of your alarm permit. Police do not respond to home alarms with revoked permits.
  • There is a safety concern for all parties if police show up on a possible hostage situation and the homeowner is not aware what is happening.

Enable Duress Code on the Touchscreen

Follow the steps below to enable the duress code.

From the Cox Homelife touchscreen Settings menu, tap Security then Manage Keypad Codes.

On the Manage Keypad Codes screen, tap Edit in the Duress field.

Tap Enable Duress Code.

Enter your four digit duress code.

Note: You will be asked to verify the new code before saving it.

Tap Save.
