Enable Bridge Mode on a Wireless Gateway

Solution

The Cox Panoramic wireless gateway puts the technology of a gateway and router into one device, creating the fastest, most reliable in-home Wifi network. Typically, two pieces of equipment are required to connect to the internet and the Wifi network in your home.

  • The gateway connects your home to an internet service provider's network.
  • The router connects your wired and wireless devices to your gateway.

We understand, however, that there may be times when you prefer to use your own router. To do this on our network, enable the Bridge Mode feature on the wireless gateway. This turns off your router's routing capabilities while leaving the gateway capabilities on.

  • When Bridge Mode is enabled, you're not able to use Cox Panoramic Wifi and pods.
  • If you've already activated your Panoramic pods, you're not able to enable Bridge Mode.
  • Enabling Bridge Mode doesn't disable the Cox Panoramic Wifi Home Hotspot feature.

Follow the steps below to activate your Panoramic Wifi Pods.

1

Open a web browser, and go to the Admin Tool at 192.168.0.1.

Note: If disabling Bridge Mode, your device must be connected to your gateway with an Ethernet cable.

2

Enter admin as the Username and password as the Password.

Note: If you previously changed your Admin Tool password, use the new password to log in.

3

From the left-hand column, select Gateway, then select At a Glance.

4

Next to Bridge Mode, click Enable.

Result: The following message displays. WARNING: Enabling Bridge Mode will disable Router functionality of Gateway and turn off the private Wi-Fi network. Are you sure you want to continue?

5

Click OK.

Result: Your wireless gateway restarts. You can now use your router in place of the wireless gateway's router capabilities.

6

In the top right corner, click Logout

7

Connect your personal router to any of the Ethernet ports on the Cox Panoramic wireless gateway.

Note: You can use your gateway's router capabilities in the future by logging in to the Admin Tool and selecting Gateway, then selecting At a Glance to set the Bridge Mode field to Disable.
