Editing Cox Email Settings to Receive Mail for Mac OS X El Capitan

Solution

Follow the steps below to edit the incoming mail server settings.

  1. Go to the Applications folder and click Mail, or click the Mail icon from the Dock at the bottom of your screen.
  2. From the Mail drop-down menu, click Preferences.

Click Accounts, then select the account you want to edit.

Note: The Incoming Mail Server field is grayed out and cannot be edited.

Complete the following tasks.

  1. Click the Advanced tab.
  2. If checked, uncheck the box next to Automatically detect and maintain account settings.

  3. Click the red circle at the top left of the window.
  4. Click Save to save the changes.

  1. From the Mail drop-down menu, click Preferences.
  2. Click the Accounts tab.
  3. In the Incoming Mail Server, User Name, and Password fields, enter your information. See Cox Email Server Settings for Residential for more details.
  4. Click the red circle at the top left of the window.
  5. Click Save to save the changes.

Quit Mail and then test your changes by sending yourself a test email from a different email account.
