Cox’s Enhanced Wifi allows you to securely connect to over 4 million Cox Hotspots outside of your home and at no additional charge. This connection encrypts traffic to keep data protected when passing from the device to the hotspot. Your data is encrypted to protect against wireless eavesdropping. Using the network standard 802.1X provides increased security when connecting to wifi. Cox Enhanced Wifi is compatible with the following devices.
- iOS 11.0 or later
- Android 8.0 or later
- Microsoft 10 or later
- MacOS X El Capitan at minimum
Using the COX SSID vs. the CoxWiFi SSID
Cox uses two SSIDs to connect devices. See the difference between each SSID below.
- CoxWiFi - An open wifi SSID available for all authenticated Cox Internet customers using a wifi capable device.
- COX - Provides a secure, encrypted connection to customers who have downloaded and installed the Cox Enhanced Wifi secure profile on their devices.
Notes:
- For best results, it is recommended to use the COX SSID.
- Not all Cox Hotspots support the COX SSID.
- Both SSIDs may be visible on the device.
Enable Enhanced Wifi on Your Devices
A notification in MyAccount provides a link to download and install the Cox Enhanced Wifi secure profile. Use the table below for steps based on the device. To prevent issues when connecting to the COX SSID, do not delete the Secure W2 app. If you are outside of the home, connect to the COX SSID. After connecting once, the device will automatically connect to CoxWiFi Hotspots using the COX SSID. If you are inside of the home, you may be unable to connect to the COX SSIDs.
