Completing the Transition to Yahoo

Details

Cox will provide advanced notice to cox.net customers via email to prepare for the change and will notify you the day of the transition.

Note: You will not be able to sign into Yahoo Mail with your cox.net email address until we have fully transitioned your account.

On the day of the move, customers who log into their email through the webmail portal will be automatically redirected to Yahoo Mail to review and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Customers using a third-party client to sign in will have an email with a link to complete the transition.

  1. Log into the Yahoo Mail platform using your cox.net email address, including @cox.net, and your existing password.
  2. Review and accept Yahoo’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  3. You will be prompted to create a new password to use with your cox.net account going forward on Yahoo Mail.
  4. Once successfully signed in you will continue to the Yahoo Mail page where your cox.net email content has been transferred. We encourage you to explore and take advantage of Yahoo’s many security features as well in the Yahoo Security Center, such as Two-Step verification.

Note: If you have 2-step authentication for your Cox.net email or would like to implement this feature, it can be reestablished or set-up after your account is transitioned.

  5. Going forward you will use your @cox.net email address and your newly created password to sign into the Yahoo Mail Platform to access and manage your email. Cox will no longer offer or support email services.

If you decide to not take action to accept Yahoo's Terms of Service and would like to retain your content, you will need to move your data to another service provider or download the desired material prior to your transition date.

After your email has transitioned you will not be able to send or receive email until you log into Yahoo Mail and accept the Terms of Service and the Yahoo Privacy Policy.

The offer to accept Yahoo’s Terms of Service and the Yahoo Privacy Policy will be available for 365 days from the date of your transition notification email. Yahoo also reserves the right to permanently deactivate accounts for extended inactivity. For more information, see Reasons Yahoo deactivates or deletes an account.

Helpful Tips

The following table provides tips to help you with the transition to Yahoo email.

ScenarioTip
Forgotten User ID / PasswordIf you have forgotten your User ID or Password, try to regain access before the transition, this will ensure the greatest chance of account recovery.
  • Before completing the move, go to Cox email login and click Forgot User ID? or Forgot Password.
  • After completing the move, go to Yahoo Mail, and visit recovery.yahoo.com.
Backing Up Emails
  • You do not need to back up your email if you plan on completing the transition to Yahoo Mail unless you prefer to do so. Your cox.net email content will automatically be moved over to Yahoo Mail upon accepting Yahoo’s Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
  • If you do not plan to move to Yahoo, you will need to move all your emails and folders to a new provider or back up your information before the migration date or they will be deleted. There are also free and paid software options available to archive your email content.
Accessing email while it is getting moved over to Yahoo

Access will remain available like it is today until you are transitioned to Yahoo Mail.

  • After the transition, if you are using myemail.cox.net, Webmail@cox.net, or clicking email through cox.com to access your email, you will be redirected to Yahoo Mail to complete the move and will then sign into Yahoo Mail for your emails going forward.
  • If you are using a third-party client, such as Mail App, Outlook, or Thunderbird, you will still have access to messages after the migration but will not be able to send or receive email until you log into Yahoo Mail and complete the move. After completing the steps, you will then need to set up your email address again via your preferred email client with Yahoo settings or use Yahoo webmail.
Moving to another providerIf you choose any provider other than Yahoo, you will need to set up a new email address with that provider. You will not be able to keep your Cox.net email address with another provider as Cox.net email addresses are only being moved over to Yahoo Mail.

Once set up, you can forward your existing email account contents to the new provider. This must be completed before your account has been moved to Yahoo Mail.

Important! You may be deleting all existing mail content from your cox.net email account as part of the forwarding process.

For full support on moving content to your new email account, we recommend that you contact your new email provider for support resources.
Update folders, contact list, or calendar once my email is moved to YahooAll your cox.net email content will automatically be transitioned over to Yahoo Mail upon accepting Yahoo’s Terms of Service and the Yahoo Privacy Policy.

While the look of where they appear in Yahoo may be different, you do not need to update your folders, contact list, or calendars unless you prefer to customize webmail features to better suit your needs.

Note: To personalize your Yahoo Mail inbox appearance, log into Yahoo, and click on Settings in the upper right-hand corner to choose selections for Theme, Message Layout, and Inbox Spacing.
Missing emails and contacts after my account has been moved to Yahoo MailAll your cox.net email content will automatically be moved over to Yahoo Mail upon accepting Yahoo’s Terms of Service. If you run into any email-related questions, visit help.yahoo.com or call Yahoo Support at 1-866-562-7250.
Unable to send and receive emails from my email clientAs a part of the move process, the various settings that allow a third-party email client to operate will need to be created on your part to reflect the new Yahoo settings if not using the Yahoo Mail app or direct website. See Fix POP or IMAP client sending and receiving issues for more information.
Updating birthdate informationFrom the drop-down menu, enter your birthdate by selecting the month, day, and four-digit year.

Example: January, 1, 1970
