Changing Your Email Server Settings for Windows Live Mail


Use the following steps to update Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 or later to secure port settings for sending and receiving your Cox Email.

To launch Live Mail, click on the Windows icon start menu icon, then click on the Mail app windows live mail in start menu.


Access your email account properties with the following steps.

  1. From the Inbox window, right-click on Cox or your Cox Email address.

  2. From the pop-up menu, click Properties.

From the Properties window, click on the Servers tab.


Complete the following updates.

  1. Under the Incoming Mail Server section, delete your Email username and Password.
  2. Re-enter your Email username and Password.
  3. Verify that your Incoming mail and Outgoing mail fields do not contain east, west, or central.
  4. Select the radio button next to Log on using clear text authentication.
  5. Place a check in the My server requires authentication box.
  6. Click Apply.

Update outgoing server information with the following steps.

  1. From the Servers tab, click Settings.

  2. Select the radio button next to Use the same settings as my incoming mail server box.
  3. Verify that the Account Name and Password fields are blank and grayed out.
  4. Click OK.

From the Properties window, click on the Advanced tab.

  1. Complete the following updates to the incoming server settings.
    • In the Outgoing mail field, delete 25 and then enter 465.
    • Place a check in the This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
    • In the Incoming mail field, update one of the following port numbers based on if you use POP or IMAP.
      • For IMAP, delete 143 and then enter 993.
      • For POP, delete 110 and then enter 995.
    • Place a check in the This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  2. Click OK.
