Changing Your Email Server Settings for Mail on macOS

Solution

Use the following steps to update Mail on macOS to secure port settings for sending and receiving your Cox Email.

To open Mail, open the Applications folder, then click Mail.


Note: You can also click the Mail icon from the Dock at the bottom of your screen.

Click Mail, then click Preferences.

  1. Click on the Accounts tab, then select your Cox Email account.
  2. Click Server Settings.

Under the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) section, complete the following steps.

  1. Verify that the Host Name field displays smtp.cox.net.
  2. Click on the Account drop-down menu, then click Edit SMTP Server List.

  1. Click Advanced, then update the following settings.
    • Place a check in the Use SSL box.
    • Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu.
    • Enter your Cox user ID and password.
    • In the Port field, delete 25, then enter 465.
  2. Click OK.

If the port fields do not display, uncheck the box next to Automatically manage connection settings.

  1. From the Accounts tab, click Server Settings, then Advanced POP Settings.
  2. Update the following settings.
    • Place a check in the Use SSL box.
    • Select Password from the Authentication drop-down menu.
    • In the Port field, update one of the following port numbers based on if you use POP or IMAP.
    • For IMAP, delete 143 and then enter 993.
    • For POP, delete 110 and then enter 995.

If the port fields do not display, uncheck the box next to Automatically manage connection settings.

Close the Accounts window.
