Changing Cox Email Server Settings

Details

If you do not know what email client you are using to access Cox Email, then right click on the program you use to access your email and select properties. A pop-up window will tell you the name and version of the program.

Here are a few generic steps to help you update your devices to use secure outgoing port settings.

  1. Identify all devices that you and others in your household use to access Cox Email.
  2. For each device, open the email client that is used for your Cox Email.
  3. Go to Settings to view your current outgoing server setting, then update the following.
    • Enable authentication, then enter your Cox Email address and password.
    • Enter one of the following port numbers based on encryption type.
      • If the encryption type is SSL or SSL/TLS, then in the port number field, enter 465.
      • If the encryption type is TLS or if your device doesn't support encryption, then in the port number field, enter 587.

Notes:

  • If Cox Email will not send after updating the outgoing server settings, then reset your password at www.cox.com/password and update the password in your email client and all related applications.
  • To validate all other settings, refer to Email Server Settings.
