Blocking Fraud and Spam Calls for Cox Mobile Using STIR / SHAKEN

STIR/SHAKEN is an automated technology working behind the scenes to help to validate that incoming calls are legitimate and reduce spam calls due to fraudulent robocalling and illegal number spoofing.

• Fraudulent robocalling and number spoofing scams are typically performed by people who are pretending to be another person and by masking their identity using false phone numbers.
• Cox uses STIR technology to note details, such as date, time, phone numbers involved, and an attestation level to signify confidence in the legitimacy of the call.
• Cox follows the SHAKEN protocol regarding how to use STIR.

Blocking Fraudulent Calls

Use the following information to help understand the type of steps Cox is taking to help prevent and block fraudulent calls.

• Cox Mobile uses STIR/SHAKEN technology to block unwanted calls.
• Hiya is an automated detection service that prevents calls suspected of spam. For more information on Hiya, refer to Managing Hiya on a Cox Mobile Samsung Devices.
• Calls from Wireless Callers are not spam or fraudulent callers.

Activating Spam Block for an Apple Device

Apple devices do not have a spam block feature on the device, however, Cox Communications manages spam blocking at the carrier level.

Note: Apple devices do have some features available to help control incoming calls.

1. On your mobile device, tap Settings.
2. Tap Phone.
3. Scroll down to locate the following options.
   • Silence Unknown Callers
   • Call Blocking & Identification

Activating Spam Block for an Android Device

To manage an Android's device spam blocking, refer to the following steps.

1. Locate and tap the phone icon.
2. At the top right-hand corner, tap the three vertical dots, then tap Settings to open the Call Settings menu.
3. Choose the option you want to change.
