The ARRIS / Motorola SBV5222 includes the following connection ports.

  • POWER - Connects the modem to the AC power source.
  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer or your home network.
  • USB - Connects to the USB port on your computer.
  • TELEPHONE 1 and 2 - Connects to home telephone wiring and to conventional telephones for or fax machines.
  • RESET - Used by Cox maintenance to reset the modem - may delete all previous settings.
  • CABLE - Connects to an active cable signal from your service provider.

The information below is usually found on a sticker located on the bottom of the modem.

  • The S/N is the serial number of the SBV5222.
  • The MTA MAC is the MAC address of the SBV5222.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Troubleshooting

The lights indicate the current status of your modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Notes:

  • This modem is a CDT-PS Internet and Telephone Modem. If you reset the modem, you will lose telephone service.
  • ARRIS / Motorola Internet and Telephone Modems that are owned by Cox have the standby button disabled.

Troubleshooting Tips

The table below offers tips for troubleshooting issues with the SBV5222.


ProblemPossible Fixes
Internet and telephone services are out.
  1. Check power connections.
  2. Check cable connections.
  3. Is the TV working? If yes, press the Reset button.
Internet service is not working using the USB port, telephones work.
  1. Check the USB cable connections. Disconnect and reconnect the USB cable from the modem and computer.

    Note: If you are using a powered USB router, ensure the router is turned on.

  2. Did you load the USB drivers? If not, load the drivers.
  3. Press the Standby button on the front of the modem until the DS, US, and Online LEDs are all on.
  4. Reboot the computer.
  5. Press the Reset button on the back of the modem.
Internet service is not working using the USB port, telephones work.
  1. Attempt recovery action listed above.
  2. Reinstall USB drivers by following these steps.
    1. Disconnect the USB cable between the computer and the modem.
    2. Reboot the computer.
    3. Reinstall the USB drivers.
Internet service is not working using the Ethernet port, telephones work.
  1. Press the Standby button on the front of the modem until the DS, US, and Online LEDs are all on.

    Notes:
    • If the Link LED is off, check the Link LEDs at the modem and the connected computer or router.
    • If you are using a router, is the router turned on?
    • Are you using the right Ethernet cable? Use a straight cable for direct connection to a computer or crossover cable for connection to a router.
  2. Press the Reset button on the back of the modem.
  3. Is the Telephone LED for the line lit? If not, contact your cable operator for assistance.
  4. Make sure all phones on the line are hung up properly.
  5. On remote and powered phones, check power and battery status.
  6. Check the telephone cables to ensure they are connected tightly and the cables are not cracked or broken.
  7. If a “fast busy” is heard, contact the cable operator for assistance.
