The Arris SBV5220 Telephone and Internet Modem supports one of the following connections.

  • A single computer equipped with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port directly to the USB port on the SBV5220 Internet and Telephone modem.
  • A single computer equipped with an Ethernet adapter directly to the Ethernet port on the SBV5220 Internet and Telephone modem.

The ARRIS / Motorola SBV5220 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • Tel 1 and Tel 2 (Telephone Ports 1 and 2) - Provides connections for two telephone lines.
  • POWER - Provides AC power to the VoIP cable modem.
  • ETHERNET - Provides the connection to Ethernet equipped computers using a cable terminated with an RJ-45 connector.
  • USB - Provides the connection to USB equipped computers.
  • Reset - If you experience a problem, you can push this recessed button to reset the VoIP cable modem. Resetting may take some time (5 to 30 minutes) because the VoIP cable modem must find and lock on the appropriate communications channels.
  • CABLE - Provides the connection to the coaxial cable (coax) outlet.

The information below is usually found on a sticker located on the bottom of the modem.

  • HFC Mac - Use this MAC address to provision the Cable Modem section.
  • MTA Mac - Use this MAC address to provision the Telephony section.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Troubleshooting

Modem Lights


The lights indicate the current status of your modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Flashing GreenNo connectivity to Internet or in Standby Mode. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.

OffInternet not available or in Standby mode. Verify all cable connections and that the modem is not in Standby mode. Try resetting the modem.

OffNo Ethernet found. Verify Ethernet cable connections, the TCP/IP settings and the NIC. You might need to reinstall the NIC drivers.
