After the cable modem is successfully registered on the network, the POWER, RECEIVE, SEND, and ONLINE lights are on and the PC/ACTIVITY light flashes when the cable modem is transferring data.

The Arris / Motorola SB5120 has the following ports available on the back of the modem.

  • POWER - Connects the cable modem to the power adapter.
  • CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet.
  • USB - Connects to the USB port on your computer.
  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer.

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Troubleshooting

The lights indicate the current status of your modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

FlashingError has occurred during normal operation. Verify coaxial cable connection and try resetting the modem.
RECEIVEFlashingScanning for a receive (downstream) channel connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
OffNo downstream connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
SENDFlashingScanning for a send (upstream) channel connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
ONLINEFlashingScanning for the network connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
PC/ACTIVITYFlashingNone. Transmitting or receiving data.
STANDBYOnStandby button pressed, Internet service blocked, all other lights are off. Press the Standby button.
