Cox recommends a DOCSIS 3.1 modem or gateway

What does this mean?DOCSIS 2.0 has a maximum speed of 25 Mbps on the Cox network.

After the cable modem is successfully registered on the network, the POWER, RECEIVE, SEND, and ONLINE indicators illuminate continuously to indicate that the cable modem is online and fully operational.

The ARRIS / Motorola SB5101N includes the following connection ports.

  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer
  • CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet
  • POWER - Connects the cable modem to the power adapter


The ARRIS / Motorola SB5101U includes the following connection ports.

  • ETHERNET - Connects to the Ethernet port on your computer
  • USB - Connects to the USB port on your computer
  • CABLE - Connects to the cable wall outlet
  • POWER - Connects the cable modem to the power adapter

MAC addresses are written as 12 digits containing both letters and numbers (0-9, A-F). A MAC address is unique. The first six characters of the MAC address are unique to the manufacturer of the device.

Troubleshooting

Status lights of modem


The lights indicate the current status of your cable modem. To troubleshoot any connection problems, use the table below.

Note: The ARRIS / Motorola SB5101N has a Standby light not shown in the image above. To turn off the Standby light, press the Standby button located on the top of the device.
 

Modem Light Status Problem
POWER Solid Green None.
Off No power. Verify power supply connections, the power switch on the modem itself, the electrical outlet, and make sure the outlet is not connected to a switch.
RECEIVE Solid Green None.
Flashing None. Searching for a downstream cable connection.
Off No cable connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
SEND Solid Green None.
Flashing None. Searching for an upstream cable connection.
Off No cable connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
ONLINE Solid Green None.
Flashing None. Scanning for an Internet connection, transmitting or receiving data over the Internet.
Off No connection. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
ACTIVITY Solid Amber None. A single device connected to either the Ethernet or USB port and no data is being sent to or from the modem.
Flashing None. LAN activity, transmitting or receiving data.
Off No devices connected. Verify all cable connections and try resetting the modem.
