Activating Readable Voice Mail


No need to dial home to check your messages, instead you can listen to your voice recordings, download, or view the transcribed text of the voice mail message from your email.
Cox voice mail is everywhere you need it to be.

  • Display transcribed text next to the playing message if Readable Voice Mail has been turned on for the voice mail.
  • Add multiple email addresses to receive notifications regarding voice mail.

To activate Readable Voice Mail, follow these steps:


Go to the Phone Tools page at https://phonetools.cox.com.

Readable Voice Mail is not available for Cox Connect.


Sign in to Phone Tools using your primary Cox email address.

If you haven't already created a User ID and Password, click No Account? Register Now! and enter your account number and PIN, which are located on your bill.


Once you are signed in, click to expand the Settings menu and click Voice Mail.


If Voice Mail is turned off, click the On button to turn on Voice Mail. If Voice Mail is turned on, click Voice Mail to expand the menu.


From the Voice Mail Settings menu, turn on Readable Voice Mail by clicking the On button.

  1. Under Voice Mail Notification click ON, to turn on Voice Mail Notification.
  2. Enter any email address.
    Note: You can add up to five email addresses to receive notifications regarding voice mail.
  3. From the Choose Notification Method drop down menu, select if you would like to send an Audio Message, Transcript, or Both to the email address.

Result: The voice mail audio and text are sent to the email address listed in Phone Tools. The phone number of the voice caller also displays in the email.

To de-activate this feature click the Off button for Readable Voice Mail.
