# How to Use the Contour App ## Meet Your Portable TV The Contour app turns your phone, tablet or computer into a portable TV. All you need is a TV subscription and your Cox User ID and password. - **Watch Anytime, Anywhere** - Watch live TV, On Demand shows, and movies from your mobile device, tablet, computer, Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV. - **Your DVR, on the Go** - Schedule, manage, and play your recordings at home or on the go. - **Download Now, Watch Later** - No WiFi? Easy Streaming **Streaming on the Contour App** There's so much to watch on the Contour app. We'll show you how. ### Watch Live TV at Home or on the Go With the Contour app, you can stream live TV channels included in your Cox TV subscription on your phone, tablet, computer, Xumo Stream Box, or Apple TV at home or on the go (note: some channels may have out-of-home viewing restrictions). The Live TV channel guide shows you what's **on now** and **upcoming** on all your subscription channels. To view channels available **out of home** : - Select the **Filter** button on the Live TV screen. - Check the **Available out of Home** box. - Select **Done** to apply the filter. Building a custom channel lineup with your favorite channels **Mobile devices and the Web:** 1. In the Live TV guide, click the **star icon** next to any channel to add it to your favorites. 2. To remove a channel, click the star again. 3. To view only your favorite channels: - Select the **Filter** button on the Live TV screen. - Check the **Favorite Channels** box. - Select **Done** to apply the filter. **On Xumo Stream Box and Apple TV:** 1. In the Live TV guide, highlight the channel name. 2. Select the **Favorite button** to add it to your favorites or select it again to remove. 3. To view your favorite channels, scroll to the top of the Live TV guide and choose Favorite Channels. Playback options **Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV:** While watching a LiveTV show or movie from the Browse menu, press the Up direction on your remote's navigation pad to access additional playback options. - **Last Watched:** View the last 9 recently viewed TV shows, movies or channels. - **Closed Captioning (CC) & SAP:** Enable subtitles or secondary audio for accessibility and language options. - **Mini Guide:** Displays the Live TV guide on the right side of the screen while watching your program. On Xumo Stream Box and Apple TV, you can use the voice remote to search by saying the channel name. **Note:** searching by channel number with the voice remote is not supported. You can also search by typing. Select the search option (magnifying glass icon) to begin. Pausing Live TV in the Cox app is not supported on any device. ### Watch on Demand Browse thousands of shows and movies to stream free, rent, or buy, with new titles added regularly. Find On Demand movies and TV shows - Locate the **Browse** button on your device in the main navigation menu. Explore Categories - Browse by sections like TV Shows, Movies, Kids, Networks and more. - Tap a category to see all available content in that section. Select and play - Tap on a show or movie to see details. From there, you can play, rent, purchase, or download (if available). Filter your options - Tap the **Filter** button (on mobile and web), or the **Options** button (on Xumo Stream Box and Apple TV), to quickly select options like Out of Home, Free to Me, HD, Closed Captioning, SAP, Downloadable content, and more. Playback options **Mobile devices:** - Select an On Demand TV show or movie from the Browse menu to view the **watch, resume, restart, or download** options. - While watching an On Demand TV show or movie from the Browse menu, tap the screen to **play/pause, fast forward, rewind, or turn on captions and alternate audio.** **Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV:** - Select an On Demand TV show or movie from the Browse menu to view the **watch, resume and restart** options. - While watching an On Demand TV show or movie from the Browse menu, press the **Up direction on your remote's navigation pad** to access additional playback options. - **Last Watched:** View the last 9 recently viewed TV shows, movies or channels. - **Play/Pause:** Start or stop a show or movie anytime without losing your place. - **Fast Forward / Rewind:** Skip ahead or go back in increments. - **Closed Captioning (CC) & SAP:** Enable subtitles or secondary audio for accessibility and language options. - **Mini Guide:** Displays the Live TV guide on the right side of the screen while watching your program. ### Your Saved Content The **Saved** or **My List** feature on the Contour app lets you collect and manage content you want to keep tabs on like recordings, purchases, downloads and favorites. Tap the **My library** button (on mobile), or the **Saved** button (on Xumo Stream Box, Apple TV and the web), to access your library of saved content. - **Recordings:** Your previously recorded programs. - **Scheduled:** Upcoming recording scheduled with the next 14 days. - **My List:** TV Shows and movies you've selected as your favorites. - **Purchases:** Any TV show or movie you rent or buy through the Contour app or Contour TV will appear here. - **Downloads:** Programs downloaded to your mobile device or computer through the Contour app. ### Set Up Parental Controls Contour App Parental Controls let you put restrictions on certain TV‐and‐video content (live, On Demand, recorded) and certain apps — everything protected by a PIN you set. **Create Parental Control PIN** On the Settings menu, tap Parental Controls. Then use the toggle switch to turn Parental Controls on. - If you haven't set up Parental Controls, you'll be asked to create and confirm a PIN - If you have set up Parental Controls, you'll need to type in that PIN to access the Parental Controls menu **Turn Safe Browse on/off or change Safe Browse settings** 1. Tap Safe Browse on the Parental Controls menu 2. Tap the toggle switch to turn the feature on or off **Heads up** - When Safe Browse is on, you can choose between High and Medium settings - Impacted programs will show their title, description and episode info as "hidden by Safe Browse" **Lock or unlock TV Ratings** 1. Tap TV Rating Locks on the Parental Controls menu 2. Choose the ratings you want to lock or change 3. If you're asked, type in your PIN 4. If you see a filled lock icon, then you're all set Under TV-MA, you can also block different rating categories: - L: Language - S: Sexual Content - V: Violence **Lock/Unlock movie ratings** 1. Tap Movie Ratings on the Parental Controls menu 2. Choose the ratings you want to lock or change 3. Type in your PIN if you're asked to 4. A filled lock icon means you're good to go **Lock or unlock a network or channel** 1. Tap Networks/Channels on the Parental Controls menu 2. Choose the channels you want to lock or choose Lock All or Clear All 1. Quick Lock: locks all versions of the channel (SD/HD) and all related On Demand programs 2. Channels: locks linear channel viewing (watching the channel live) or different settings for certain channels 3. On Demand: lock any On Demand programs related to the network 3. Enter your PIN if you're asked 4. A filled lock icon means you're all set **Reset all restrictions** 1. Tap Reset All Restrictions on the Parental Controls menu 2. Enter your PIN ### Set Up Closed Captioning Access the Contour app settings menu. Navigate to the Accessibility menu to find the Closed Caption settings and options. **Toggle On/Off Access** - **On Mobile Devices:** While watching a program, tap/click the screen to access the **Closed Caption access button** on the lower right of the screen. - **On Xumo Stream Box and Apple TV:** While watching a program, press the **Up direction on your remote's navigation pad** to access the **Closed Caption access button** on the lower right of the screen. ## Mini Guide ### View Your TV Guide Without Leaving Your Show The Mini Guide puts live TV at your fingertips, letting you browse what's airing live without ever leaving your show or movie. Only available via the Contour app on the Xumo Stream Box. ## Contour App FAQs ### What do I need to get started with Contour App? - Cox video subscription service. - Cox Account login credentials. - Cox Internet connection to enjoy the full lineup of channels. - Any internet connection to use TV GO channels. - A qualified device that supports the Contour App (cell phone, tablet, computer, Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV). ### How do I set up the app for the first time? **Mobile device** - Download the Contour App from your mobile device's app store. - Open the app and tap Sign In. - Enter your Cox account credentials. - If your account is through a university, tap University Sign In instead. - Once signed in, you'll have full access to your Contour content on the go. **Computer** - Go to [watchtv.cox.com](http://watchtv.cox.com/). - Click **Sign In**. - Enter your **Cox account credentials**. - If your account is through a university, choose University Sign In instead. - Once signed in, you can start streaming your Contour content directly from your browser. **Xumo Stream Box and Apple TV** - Make sure your Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV is powered on and connected to your TV. - Open the Contour App from the Apps menu or say "**Contour app**" into your voice remote. - Select **Sign In**. - Scan the QR code using your mobile device or go to *login.cox.com/activate* on your computer or mobile device. - Enter your **Cox account credentials**. - Once signed in, you'll have full access to your Contour content right on your TV. ### Can I watch live TV away from home? Yes. Out-of-home channels depend on your Cox TV plan. To see which ones you can watch on your mobile device, go to the Live TV menu and filter by "Available out of home." For Cox TV Lite customers all channels and content is available out of home. ### What is the best way to search for a program or network? - From anywhere in the **Contour app on a mobile device or computer**, click the magnifying glass to initiate a search. You may search typing in the name of the program or network you are looking for. - From the Contour app on the **Xumo Stream Box or Apple TV**, use the voice remote to say the name of the program or network you are looking for. ### Why does the app tell me that I need to connect to my home Wi-Fi to watch my show? Only specific TV channels are currently available for out-of-home. If you are **not connected** to your home Wi-Fi, you will only be able to watch out of home channels. If you **are connected** to your home Wi-Fi, you should be able to access all the TV channels that you subscribe to. If you are at home: Please make sure that you are connected to your home Wi-Fi network. If you still receive the message, try rebooting your Wi-Fi router and uninstalling/reinstalling the Contour app. Please contact Cox Support for additional help if you are still experiencing issues. For Cox TV Lite customers you can watch all channels and content anywhere. No Wi-Fi connection required. ### Can I set/modify recordings on my home DVR from the app? Yes. For customers with a Contour TV plan (not Cox TV Lite), you can set new recordings or manage existing ones on your home DVR. ### Is the Contour app available on Roku or Amazon Fire TV? No. The Contour app is only available on the Xumo Stream Box, Apple TV, mobile devices, and online at [watchtv.cox.com](http://watchtv.cox.com/). ### Can I continue to stream, or download purchased movies and shows on the Contour app after disconnecting Cox services? Yes. You can continue to stream, or download purchased movies and shows after you disconnect Cox services.
