Preparing for Installation

We hope you're excited about your Homelife installation. To make the process as seamless as possible, we want to help you understand what happens before and during the day of your installation, including things you can do to prepare.

Before We Arrive

  1. Electronically sign the Cox Homelife Service Agreement sent to the primary email address listed on your Cox Account. Without this, your installation process may be delayed. If you have not received your Service Agreement by email, please call 1-888-602-9625 or contact your sales representative.
  2. Save Cox Central Monitoring Station as a contact (1-800-633-2677) so you'll know when we are calling to verify an alarm.
  3. Depending on where you live, you may be required to obtain an alarm user permit. Check your city’s requirements.
  4. Learn more about your equipment.
  5. Complete a pre-installation worksheet to make installation day seamless.
  6. Ensure a homeowner over the age of 18, who is also an authorized user on your Cox account, is available throughout the installation with access to the primary email address listed on your account. This person should also have the authorization to establish passcodes and passwords for your security system.
  7. Please secure all pets! Our technicians love pets but will need access throughout your home during installation.
  8. Your high speed internet connection should be up and running, or get installed in the same visit. Homelife cannot be installed without broadband connectivity.
  9. Make sure your mobile device is fully charged so your technician can show you how to operate your system remotely.
Download the Cox Homelife mobile app:
Note: You will sign in with the Username and Password set up during installation.

What to Expect on Installation Day

  1. Your licensed, full-time Cox Homelife technician will arrive within your preset 2-hour window.
  2. The average installation takes about 4 hours depending on the services you’ve purchased. Upgrading an existing system may take longer. Please plan accordingly.
  3. Every home is different, so our licensed technician will perform a thorough walk through of your home to identify how devices will be installed to achieve maximum effectiveness.
  4. Your technician will be ready and able to answer any questions you may have about your new Homelife system.

What You'll Need to Provide

  1. Your desired 4-digit keypad code for arming and disarming your system and managing your system through the Touchscreen Control Panel and Homelife mobile app. You can even create several keypad codes unique to each user.
  2. Your desired “secret word” to cancel a false alarm with the Central Monitoring Station. The operator cannot see your passcode in the event of an emergency, so your secret word should be:

    • Easy to remember
    • Easy to pronounce and spell
    • Known by everyone in the household

  3. At lease two Emergency Dispatch contacts. These are the numbers the Central Monitoring Station will call to verify an emergency.
