DIY Install Guide

Do It Yourself

Do you have a new device to enhance your Homelife experience? We’ll help guide you through the installation. Watch the video and click on the Resources links for detailed instructions. Want to add more to your Homelife? Shop online and have these devices shipped right to your home to quickly and easily install them yourself. Devices other than those listed below require professional installation.

Getting Started

Adding new devices to connect with your Cox Homelife Automation system can be done in just a few easy steps.

  1. Sign in to your Cox Homelife mobile app.
  2. Go to the More menu and select ‘Manage Devices’
  3. Tap ‘Add Devices’
  4. Select the type of device you are adding

    Note: If you are adding a Smart Plug, select the ‘Lights’ option

  5. Follow the instructions on screen to power up and then pair your device
  6. Your paired device will now appear on the ‘Manage Devices’ screen
  7. Press the EDIT button to customize the device name (i.e., Living Room Lamp)
Note: You may remove paired devices from your system on the Edit Devices screen. However, adding the device back onto your system will require re-pairing it with the hub.

Smart LED Light Bulb

With the Smart LED Light Bulb from Homelife, you can easily switch out old bulbs, for new efficient, dimmable LED bulbs that have a life expectancy of up to 22 years! Plus, you can control your lights remotely using the Cox Homelife mobile app, and set up Rules that automate when they turn on or off.

Pairing

To pair the Smart LED Light Bulb with your Homelife hub, you will screw the bulb into any standard light socket (medium, type E26). When the light begins pulsing, it is in pairing mode. Your Cox Homelife mobile app will do the rest.

Troubleshooting Tips
    • If initial pairing is unsuccessful, you can reset the bulb by power cycling the bulb (turning on and off) 10 times. The bulb will begin to pulse, indicating it is ready to pair.
    • This LED bulb should not be used with separate dimmers
    • The light fixture must remain ON at all times in order to control remotely
How to Use

Tap the Lights tile and simply tap the selected light bulb to turn lights on or off, or select the ALL ON or ALL OFF options. For dimmable lights, press the square adjustment icon for the selected light and use the slider to adjust the brightness.

HD Camera (Indoor Use)

With the HD Camera from Homelife, you can now view live video of your home remotely as well as record brief video clips from anywhere, anytime. Self-installation of the HD Camera is approved for indoor use only. Please call us at 1-877-404-2568 to request outdoor mounting and installation by one of our licensed technicians.

Pairing

To pair the HD Camera with your Homelife hub, start by unpacking and powering up the camera.

  1. Secure the camera body to the adjustable camera mount.
  2. Take the black Ethernet Cable and connect one end to the back of the camera body.
  3. Then connect the other end of the Ethernet Cable to the black Ethernet Power Adapter Cable.
  4. Connect the Power Cord to the Adapter Cable and plug it into nearby wall outlet.
  5. Locate the WPS button on your home WiFi router and tap it to begin the wireless pairing process.

  6. If you do not have a WPS button on your router, then you must connect the camera to the router using the white Pairing Y Cable during the pairing process.

    Note: make sure you have an available power outlet near your router before you get started.

Make sure both green lights on the front of the camera are on and blinking, indicating it is ready to pair. The Cox Homelife mobile app will do the rest.

Once the camera is successfully paired, you may move it to your desired location, utilizing just the Ethernet Power Adapter Cable, as shown in Figure 1 above.

How to Use

Your camera views are present on your Overview screen. To switch between cameras, simply swipe left or right through the gallery.

    • To take a picture, select the desired camera and press ‘Take Picture’.
    • To take a 15 second video clip, select the desired camera and press ‘Take Video’.
    • To view, save or delete an image or video clip, select the desired camera, or go to the Activity menu.

Smart Door Lock

With the Smart Door Lock from Homelife, you can lock and unlock your doors, or check the status of your locks from anywhere using your Homelife mobile app or Subscriber Portal.

How to Use

Programming Codes

You can program up to 30 individual user codes for your door lock. Please note, however, that these are managed at the physical door lock, not through your Homelife app.

  1. On the inside panel of the door lock, press the Program button one time.
  2. On the door lock’s keypad, enter a new user code between 4-8 digits.
  3. Press the Lock button once.
  4. The keypad will flash green and beep once to indicate programming was successful.
  5. Repeat the process to program additional user codes.
Pairing

After you have successfully installed the door lock, but before attaching the back cover, you will pair the Smart Door Lock with your Homelife hub. Press the A button 4 times until the red and amber lights appear, indicating it is in pairing mode.

Troubleshooting Tips

If initial pairing is unsuccessful, you can reset the lock by pressing the B button 9 times. This should allow you to restart the pairing process by pressing the A button 4 times.

Locking and Unlocking
    • To lock the door, press the Lock button one time.
    • To unlock the door, press the Lock button to illuminate the keypad (optional), and then enter a valid user code.
Note: If three incorrect user codes are entered consecutively, or if three timeouts occur within one minute, the keypad will be locked for 60 seconds.

Smart Plug

With the Smart Plug from Homelife, you can easily control your lamps or small appliances remotely using the Cox Homelife mobile app, and set up Rules that automate when they turn on or off.

Pairing

To pair the Smart Plug with your Homelife hub, plug it into a nearby electrical outlet, and press the button on the device to turn it on. The light on the device will begin to blink. Once the device is on, it will automatically enter pairing mode. When the blue light on the front of the Plug begins to blink, it is in pairing mode. Your Cox Homelife mobile app will do the rest. Once the Plug has finished pairing with the hub, you can move it to your desired location.

Troubleshooting Tips
    • If initial pairing is unsuccessful, you can reset it. Remove the Smart Plug from the outlet. Then press and hold the button while you plug it back in. Release the power button as soon as the blue light begins to blink, indicating it is ready to pair.
    • Lamp or appliance must remain ON at all times in order to control remotely
How to Use

Tap the Lights tile and simply tap the light bulb icon to turn selected lights, or appliances controlled by the Smart Plug, on or off. Pressing the ALL ON or ALL OFF buttons will control all LED Light Bulbs and Smart Plugs at the same time.
