Troubleshooting Issues With the Cox Business Remote

Solution

Use the table below to address common issues with the remote control.

Note: If you are unable to resolve the issue using the table below, then you may need to pair the remote to the TV.  Refer to Pairing or Unpairing the Contour Remote.
 

Symptom Possible Causes Quick Fixes
The remote will not turn the TV off or on. The remote is not programmed to the TV. Program the remote to the customer's TV.
The remote is not in TV mode.
  1. Aim the Cox remote at your TV
  2. Press the TV button once.
  3. Press the Power button once.
     
    Result: The TV turns OFF or ON.
The remote will not control the volume on the TV. The volume lock is set to the TV.

Using the remote, set the volume lock to the TV.

The remote is not programmed to the TV. Program the remote to the customer's TV.
Remote works sometimes.
  • The Cox remote does not have a direct line of sight to the receiver.
  • Something is between the line of sight between the remote and the receiver, blocking the remote’s signal to the receiver.
  • The angle between the remote and the receiver is too large.
  • Aim the remote control directly at the front panel of the Cox cable receiver, standing not too far to either side and press a button on the remote. For example, channel up.
  • Remove obstacles between the remote and the receiver and press a button on the remote. For example, channel up.

The range of the remote control is 15 feet, via direct line of sight to the receiver.

The remote will not change channels or turn on the TV. Batteries are low, dead, or inserted incorrectly.
  • Verify the batteries are inserted in the correct direction.
  • On the Cox cable receiver, press the Power button. If the box turns ON or OFF, then install new batteries in the remote and try again.
  • Make sure the equipment is plugged into an active power outlet.

    Note: If the equipment is plugged into a wall switch that controls the power, make sure the wall switch is in the ON position.
The Remote is lost, damaged, or is no longer working. Replace the remote.
The remote does not work anymore even with new batteries. Replace the remote.
