Tips to Secure Your Cox Business Account

We care about your safety online and proactively monitor your account for suspicious activity. The items listed below may flag your account for suspicious behavior.

  • Logins to CoxBusiness.com from unusual IPs or locations
  • Emails sent to your Cox Business Email address that auto-forward to suspicious mailboxes
  • Unknown email addresses or mailboxes displaying in your Cox Business Email inbox
  • Account credentials are found on a list posted online by criminals

If we detect these or other suspicious behaviors, we proactively change your password to protect you against malicious activity. Unfortunately, this also locks you out of your account until you change your password.

Preventing a Compromised Account

Keep your account safe using the following tips.

  • Do not click on links in emails from people you don't know.
  • Update the passwords for each of your Cox Business User IDs to passwords you've never used before.
  • Use unique passwords for each Cox Business User ID.
  • Do not use these User ID and password combinations on other websites.
  • Confirm that your anti-virus software is up to date.

Securing Your Account

If any of your accounts have been compromised online, then complete the following steps to secure your Cox Business account.

Sign in to your Cox Business account on a secure, private device at myaccount.coxbusiness.com.

Remove any logins or email accounts that you do not recognize or use. For help, refer to Managing Users and Permissions in MyAccount.

Change your password, secret questions and answers, or PIN.

For an extra layer of security, activate Multi-factor Authentication, a two-step verification process. For more details, refer to Multi-factor Authentication Enrollment in MyAccount.

If you have a Cox Business Email address, sign in to check for any unauthorized forwarding or filter rules on all your email accounts.

If you are a Cox Business Voice customer, check Voice Tools in MyAccount for the following items.

If you have used the same user ID and password combination on CoxBusiness.com and other websites, change your credentials to something unique on other websites to prevent malicious activity on those sites.
