Self-Installing a DOCSIS 3.1 Internet Gateway


Use the following steps to install the DOCSIS 3.1 Internet Gateway.


Complete the following steps to plug in the Gateway.

  1. Connect the coax cable to the Cable from Wall port on the Gateway and to an active cable outlet.
  2. Connect the power cord to the Gateway and to an electrical outlet.

    Note: Ensure that the electrical outlet isn't connected to a dimmer or a switched outlet.

Complete the following steps.

  1. Wait a few minutes for the Gateway to power on.

    Note: When the light stays solid, the Gateway is ready. This could take up to ten minutes.

  2. How are you connecting to the Gateway?

    If you are connecting using a…Then…
    Wireless connection
    1. Open the Wifi Settings on your device.
    2. Using the label on the bottom of the Gateway, connect to the network using the 2.4G SSID network name and the PassPhrase.
    Wired connectionPlug the included Ethernet cable into an Ethernet port on the Gateway and the WAN port of your computer.

  3. Open a browser to confirm you are online.

Using the login information emailed to you, complete the following steps to set up your network names and passwords.

  1. Go to myaccount-business.cox.com, enter your User ID and Password, and then click Sign In.

    Note: If you have not created an online profile with a User ID and Password, refer to Setting Up Your Online Profile.

  2. Personalize network names and passwords.
  3. If applicable, configure your Gateway with a static IP.
