Managing Contour Device Settings

Solution

Press the CONTOUR button on the Cox remote.
 

Result: The Main Menu displays.

Highlight Settings, represented by the gear icon, then press OK.
 

Note: The gear icon is the last option on the main menu.
 

Result: The Settings menu displays.

Highlight Device Settings, then press OK.

Adjust the brightness of the front panel clock
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Device Lights, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Clock Light Brightness, then press OK.
  3. Use the left and right arrows to choose Off, 1, 2, or 3 then press OK.
Turn power light on or off
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Device Lights, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Power Light Brightness, then press OK.
  3. Use the left and right arrows to choose On or Off, then press OK.
Reset the SAP language
  1. Highlight Audio, then press OK.
  2. Highlight Audio Language (SAP) Reset, then press OK.
  3. In the pop-up box, highlight OK, then press OK.

    Result: The reset clears your current audio (SAP) setting and reverts to the default audio for all programs.

Change the video output resolution

Note: This affects the aspect ratio.
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Video Display, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight Video Output Resolution, then press OK.
  3. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the desired resolution option, then press OK.

    Result: A confirmation message displays.

  4. Press the right arrow to highlight YES, then press OK.
Restart this device
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Power Preferences, then press OK.
  2. Highlight Restart, then press OK.

    Result: A confirmation message displays.

  3. Press the right arrow to highlight Restart, then press OK.
Select the HDMI output modeRefer to Audio Settings.
Set or change the receiver name
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Device Name, then press OK.
  2. Use the up and down arrows to highlight a default name or choose Custom Name, then press OK.
  3. To create a Custom Name, use the character selector to spell the name by using the left and right arrows to highlight letters, pressing OK to confirm each letter.
  4. Use the down arrow to highlight Confirm, then press OK.
Change Power Saver
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Power Preferences, then press OK.
  2. Highlight Power Saver, then press OK.

    Result
    : The system toggles between On and Off.

    Note: Power Saver setting impact to screensaver activation varies between IPTV and non-IPTV customers.
    • Non-IPTV customers
      • If Power Saver is enabled, then an "Are You Still There?" overlay message displays after approximately four hours. If no response is received, then the box will go into sleep mode or display the screen saver.
      • If Power Saver is not enabled, then content continues to play without interruption.
    • IPTV customers
      • If Power Saver is enabled, then an "Are You Still There?" overlay message displays after approximately four hours. If no response is received, then the box will go into sleep mode or display the screen saver.
      • If Power Saver is not enabled, then an "Are You Still There?" overlay message displays after approximately eight hours to conserve bandwidth for content delivery. If no response is received, then the box will go into sleep mode or display the screen saver.
Sleep Now
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Power Preferences, then press OK.
  2. Highlight Sleep Now, then press OK.
  3. In the pop-up display, confirm your selection by highlighting Sleep Now, then press OK.

    Result: The system power downs immediately.

Note: DVRs in Power Save mode perform all scheduled recordings.

Specify when the screen saver activates
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Screen Saver, then press OK.
  2. Screen Saver Starts After is already highlighted, press OK.
  3. Use the up and down arrows to highlight 5, 15, or 30 minutes, or 5 hours, then press OK.

    Note: Power Saver setting impact to screen saver activation varies between IPTV and non-IPTV customers. See Change Power Saver for more information.
Change the NewsFeed settings for the screen saver
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Screen Saver, then press OK.
  2. Use the down arrow to highlight News Feed, then press OK.
  3. Use the up or down arrows to highlight the option to change.
  4. Press Ok to change the option to either On or Off as desired.
Turn Closed Captioning on or off and change Closed Captioning formatting
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Closed Captioning, then press OK to toggle the feature on or off.
  2. With closed captioning turned on, you can press the down arrow to highlight Closed Captioning Options, then press OK to make changes to the language, font size, color, and formatting.
    1. Use the up and down arrows to highlight a setting, then press OK.
    2. Use the up and down arrows to choose an option, then press OK.

While watching TV, the following options are available.

  • Use the voice command, Closed Caption to enable or disable closed captioning.
  • Press the down arrow to display a playback control bar that includes a closed captioning shortcut.
  • Through the Accessibility Menu by pressing the B button, highlight Settings, then scroll down to Accessibility Settings.
Turn picture zoom on or off
  1. Use the down arrow to highlight Video Display Settings, then press OK.
  2. In the Video Display Settings menu, use the down arrow to select Zoom. Press OK to switch between None and Full.
View and change the remote settings

View or adjust the following settings for the remote.

  • View Battery Level
  • Turn on or off Voice Control
  • Turn on or off On-screen voice suggestions
  • Learn more about using the remote
  • Pair the remote to the TV or external audio devices
Change device name

Choose from Not Available, Custom Name, or any premade selection.

Sync DVR

Sync recordings to all DVRs in the home, outside of periodic updates, to ensure all recordings are available from any DVR.
 

Note: This option is for homes that have more than one host DVR receiver.

After making changes, press LAST to return to the Settings menu or EXIT to return to watching TV.
