Managing an Internet Connection in macOS

Solution

Use the following steps to set up or restore an internet connection in macOS.

Setting Up an Internet Connection

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  2. From the View menu, click Network.
  3. From the Show pop-up window, click Built-in Ethernet.
  4. Click the TCP/IP tab.
  5. Ensure the Location drop-down says Automatic.
  6. From the Configure menu, click Using DHCP.

    Note: Cox provides the DHCP information automatically.
  7. Click Apply Now.
  8. To test the internet connection, open a web browser and try to access different websites.

Release and Renew an IP Address

  1. From the Apple menu, click System Preferences.
  2. Click Network.
  3. Click Ethernet.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Click Renew DHCP Lease and then click TCP/IP.
  6. Click Renew DHCP Lease.
