Connecting a Receiver to a Television

Solution

Follow the steps below to connect your television set to a Cox receiver.
 

For instructions to connect additional equipment, such as VCRs, DVD-Rs, or stereo receivers, refer to the equipment manufacturer.

Connect the coax (RF) cable from the wall to the Cable In or Cable from Wall port of your cable receiver.

Connect the cable receiver to your television using one of the connection types below.

Coax (RF) RF cable Diagram (PNG) Digital Video and audio Coax cables can be used to provide standard definition digital.

Component cables are a set of five cables, three video and two audio. This connection provides high definition video and stereo audio.

S-Video S Video cable Diagram (PNG) Digital video only

S-video cables provide only a video feed.
 

A separate cable is required for audio.

High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) HDMI cable Diagram (PNG) High Definition video and audio

HDMI cables provide both the audio and video connection on a single cable.

Audio Stereo audio cable Refer to S-video diagram. Stereo audio only

Stereo audio cables provide an audio only feed. They are used with an S-video connection and can also be used to connect to a stereo receiver.
 

This cable is commonly used with a S-video connection.

Sony/Philips Digital Interface Format (SPDIF) Coaxial cable Refer to manufacturer of your stereo receiver. Stereo / Surround Sound audio only

SPDIF cables are coaxial and can provide 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound audio.
 

This cable is connected from the Cox receiver to a stereo receiver for stereo and surround sound.

Optical Optical cable Refer to manufacturer of your stereo receiver. Stereo / Surround Sound audio only

Optical cables are fiber-optic and can provide 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound audio.
 

This cable is connected from the Cox receiver to a stereo receiver for stereo and surround sound.

Connect your TV and cable receiver to a power source, such as the wall outlet or surge protector, and turn them on.
