Common Static IP Use Cases with Cox Business Internet Gateway (CBIG) in Mixed Mode

Mixed mode allows one or more ports of the gateway to be configured in a pass-through mode like a cable modem, while the rest of the gateway retains its routing functionality.

  • The WAN interface of the gateway receives a dynamic IP address from the Cox network DHCP server.
  • The static IP(s) are configured on the device(s) connected to the bridged port(s).
  • This configuration does not require port forwarding to the statically assigned device like the routed configurations.

Note
: You must configure the static IP on the device. It does not automatically receive an IP address like a dynamic IP assigned using DHCP.

Select from one of the use cases below to identify when static IP is used with CBIG in Mixed Mode.
