Changing Email Server Settings for Mozilla Thunderbird

Solution

Use the following steps to update Mozilla Thunderbird to secure port settings for sending and receiving your Cox Business Email.

To launch Thunderbird, click Start or the Windows icon image of Windows icon, then click Mozilla Thunderbird.

Click the Menu icon, hover on Options, and then click Account Settings.

From the Account Settings window, click Server Settings and update the following settings.

  • Select SSL/TLS from the drop-down menu by Connection security.
  • Select Normal password from the drop-down menu by Authentication method.
  • In the Port field, update one of the following port numbers based on if you use POP or IMAP.
    • For IMAP, delete 143 and then enter 993.
    • For POP, delete 110 and then enter 995.

Click Outgoing Server (SMTP), then click Edit.

From the SMTP Server window, update the following settings.

  • Select SSL/TLSr from the drop-down menu by Connection security.
  • Select Normal password from the drop-down menu by Authentication method.
  • Enter your Cox User ID in the User Name field.
  • In the Port field, delete 25, then enter 465.
  • Click OK.

From the Account Settings window, click OK.

On the SMTP Server Password Required pop-up window, enter your Cox password.
