Changing Email Server Settings for Microsoft Outlook 2007-2016

Solution

Use the following steps to update Microsoft Outlook 2007-2016 to secure port settings for sending and receiving your Cox Business Email.

To launch Outlook, click Start or the Windows icon Image of Windows icon, then click Microsoft Outlook.

Access the Account Settings window using the steps in the following table.

  1. Click File, then Account Settings.
  2. Click Account Settings.

  1. Click Tools.
  2. Click Account Settings.

From the Account Settings window, select your Cox Business Email account and then click Change.

From the Change Account window, complete the following steps.

  1. Under the Logon Information section, delete your User Name and Password.
  2. Re-enter your User Name and Password.
  3. Verify that your Incoming mail server and Outgoing mail server fields do not contain east, west, or central.
  4. Click More Settings.

From the Internet Email Settings window, click the Advanced tab.

From the Advanced tab, update the following settings.

  • Place a check in the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) box.

  • In the drop-down menu by Use the following type of encryption, select SSL.

Note: Do not change any other settings on the Advanced tab other than what is displayed in steps 6 and 7.

From the Advanced tab, use the table below to update the unsecure port numbers to secure port numbers.

Click on the Outgoing Server tab, then update the following settings.

  • Place a check in the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication box.
  • Verify that the Use the same settings as my incoming mail server box is selected.
  • Verify that the User Name and Password fields are blank and grayed out.
  • Click OK.

From the Change Account window, click Next and then Finish.

From the Account Settings window, click Close.
