Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Answers to frequently asked questions about the Cox Arizona refund.

Why is Cox issuing refunds/credits?

The credit is part of a settlement with the Arizona Attorney General related to the Broadcast Surcharge Fee (BSF) and the Regional Sports Surcharge (RSS).

We will distribute payments as account credits to all eligible Arizona customers who still have active Cox accounts at the time the credit is issued. We’ll make reasonable, good-faith efforts to locate all eligible consumers who do not have active Cox accounts and will distribute payments to them in the form of electronic funds transfers.

Cox customers who had cable service in Arizona and signed up for Term Agreements between January 2017 and March 2021, and paid Cox for Broadcast Surcharge Fee (BSF) and the Regional Sports Surcharge (RSS) surcharges are eligible.

Cox will notify eligible former customers and provide an option to accept the refund via electronic funds transfer.

Since 2021, our pricing options have not included a regional sports surcharge. It was a separate surcharge that reflected a range of costs associated with the delivery of sports TV channels to our customers. The costs covered portions of retransmission costs, network costs, copyright costs and others.

If your bill includes the surcharge, please visit www.Cox.com to evaluate our new pricing options and packages.

No, these surcharges are not illegal. They were a common pricing practice in the cable industry, and they reflected the rising costs of providing regional sports and broadcast programming. Cox entered into this settlement to resolve a dispute with the Arizona Attorney General, and the settlement agreement does not find that Cox did anything illegal or unlawful.

The settlement with the Arizona Attorney General includes a payment to the Attorney General’s statutory fund.

If you are the representative of an estate of a deceased customer and you believe you have a claim on behalf of that estate, Cox will evaluate such claim on an individual basis.

If you were an Arizona customer who had cable service and signed up for Term Agreements between January 2017 and March 2021, and paid Cox for BSF and/or RSS surcharges.

Since 2021, our pricing options do not include this separate surcharge. If you haven’t made recent changes to your services, you may have pricing that continues to include the surcharges. To evaluate our new pricing options and packages, please visit www.Cox.com.

If your video service was included in your rent then it is unlikely that you paid the surcharges, and you are not eligible for a refund/credit.
