The DVR set-top will not power on. |
The DVR set-top may have received a software update and may not power on while the new software is being installed. Try again in a few minutes.
Verify that the AC power cord is connected to the DVR and an AC outlet. Unplug the DVR from the AC outlet, plug it back in, and then press the POWER button.
If the DVR is connected to a switched outlet on another unit, verify that the other unit is powered on. Unplug the power cord from the DVR's AC outlet, plug it back in, and then press the DVR POWER button.
Press the POWER button on the DVR front panel instead of the remote control. The batteries in the remote control may be depleted. |
The PPV event I was watching stopped before the end. |
A PPV event has a specific begin and end time. If you used the pause or rewind feature of your DVR to time shift your PPV event, it is possible for the event's time window to expire before your viewing of the event ends.
This will result in you missing the end of the event. We recommend that you watch PPV events straight through or record the event while you are watching during the advertised time window. Once you record the event you will be able to use all the DVR features such as pause, rewind, fast forward, and instant replay without any problems. |

If you are not using an HDTV with the DVR, the 480i format must be selected in the User Settings or the on-screen display will go blank. If this occurs, view the settings from the LED window on the front panel of the DVR and change the YPbPr OUTPUT setting to 480i. To do this, press the up and down arrow keys on the front panel to highlight the YPbPr OUTPUT setting. Press the right arrow key to select the 480i setting. Use the up and down arrow keys to move to another setting. To exit and save your settings, press the MENU key.
If you are using the DVI video connection, the YPbPr OUTPUT setting displays as DVI/YPbPr OUTPUT.
If the DVR video output is connected to a home theater unit, verify that the home theater unit is powered on and set to the appropriate input source.

The program guide is not appearing on the TV screen.
Closed captions are not appearing. |
During setup, if the DVR is set to the 1080i, 720p, or 480p output format, but the the DVR video is connected to the TV with the composite video cable (the cable with the yellow plugs that connect the yellow Video ports), then the program guide will not be displayed. In this case, disconnect the yellow composite cable and connect the YPbPr (red, green, and blue plugs) cable or the DVI cable from the the DVR to the HDTV.
On the other hand, if the DVR is connected to a standard definition (SD) TV, verify that the DVR is set to the 480i output mode.
Verify that Closed Captions has been enabled. Refer to the DVR User Guide for more information. |
There are black bars to the right and left of the picture |
Widescreen HDTVs display regular programming (which is the 4:3 format) with black bars unless the User Settings are set to Stretch. To set the Stretch setting, turn off the DVR, but turn on the TV. Press the MENU key on the front panel of the DVR. The User Settings screen displays on the TV. Set TV Type to 16:9. Set the DVI/YPbPr Output to 1080i. Set the 4:3 OVERRIDE to Stretch. This enables most widescreen HDTVs to stretch the video to fill the screen (see your TV manufacturer's manual for information about stretching 4:3 video).
If the DVR is connected to a widescreen TV, verify that the TV TYPE is set to 16:9 in the User Settings menu.
Some HD programs are broadcast in pillar-box format with black bars to the left and right of the picture. These programs are broadcast in 16:9 HD formats even though the video is not 16:9. |
|
There are black bars above and below the picture |
Turn on the 4:3 OVERRIDE feature in the User Settings menu. This enables most standard screen TVs to display a full-screen picture when the DVR is tuned to a 4:3 program.
Set the TV TYPE to 4:3 Pan-Scan. This enables the DVR to remove the black bars above and below the picture when possible.
Some standard definition (SD) programs are broadcast in the letterbox format with black bars above and below the picture. Some widescreens HDTVs offer a zoom feature that may be able to remove the black bars (see your TV manufacturer's manual for information about zooming 4:3 video). |
