How to Activate Your Voice Mailbox
To complete the one-time, initial setup of your voice mailbox, follow these steps:
- From your home, dial your home telephone number.
- When your greeting begins, interrupt by pressing the * key.
- Next, you will hear a greeting from Cox that asks you for your password. Your temporary password is 269266 or COXCOM.
- You will hear, “Welcome to the Cox Voice Messaging Network..” You will then be guided through a tutorial that helps you set up your voice mailbox and set up a new password. Select a new password that is at least 4 digits and not easily guessed by others.
All steps complete.
Whenever you have unplayed messages, you will hear a “Distinctive Stutter” tone when you pick up your home telephone. You can access your messages from either inside your home or outside your home.
From your home phone:
- Lift the handset of your home phone and then enter your home phone number.
- When the greeting begins, interrupt by pressing the * key.
- When prompted, enter your password.
All steps complete.
From an outside line, mobile phone, or long-distance:
- Call your home phone number.
- When the greeting begins, interrupt by pressing the * key.
- When prompted, enter your password.
All steps complete.
Using the Cox Access Number (where available)
- From the home phone that has Caller ID Block turned ON, or from an outside line, mobile phone, or long-distance phone, call your Cox Access Number.
Result: A voice prompt asks you to enter your mailbox number.
- Enter your mailbox number, which is your 10-digit phone number beginning with the area code.
- When prompted, enter your password.
All steps complete.
How to Save, Delete, and Recover Messages
To check your messages, start at the Main Menu, and press 1.
- To save a message, press 9.
- To delete a message, press 7.
- To recover deleted messages, press * 3.
How to Pause, Rewind, Fast-Forward, and more...
The following are a list of useful, time-saving shortcuts.
- Press 1 to rewind the message 6 seconds.
- Press 11 to rewind the message to beginning.
- Press 2 to pause or continue the message.
- Press 3 to fast-forward the message 6 seconds.
- Press 33 to fast-forward the message to the end.
- Press 5 to hear the date and time stamp.
- Press # to save the current message and go to the next message.
- Press ## to play saved messages only.
- Press 0 at any time for pre-recorded online help regarding features or options.
- Press * at any time to cancel what you're doing and return to the previous menu.
- To exit your mailbox at any time, press * repeatedly until you hear goodbye.
- Press # to quickly bypass a prompt, complete a step, or skip a message that you are reviewing.
- Press ## to skip from unheard messages directly to saved messages.
- During or after listening to a message, press 88 to automatically call back the caller. (If a callback number is not available, you can designate a number to call.)
- Press * * after the callback has ended and you will be dropped back into your message queue.
Note: Automatic Callback is not available in all markets. In some markets, Automatic Callback only works from your home phone (not from a cell or remote phone). The feature does not work on international, 900, 976, or operator-assisted calls. Calls made from voice mail incur charges as per your Cox telephone plan or service agreement.
