Cox Operators are available to assist you every day, 24 hours a day for all of your calling needs.


Operator & Directory services offered:

Instructions for dialing Operator-Assisted Calls:

  • To reach a Cox Operator for assistance in placing a call, press "0."

To make an operator-assisted call, by dialing the number yourself:

  • Press "0" + the area code + phone number.
  • When the Cox Operator answers, say what type of call
    you wish to make.


Directory Assistance (411)

  • Dial "411" to obtain the telephone number of any listed number, anywhere in the United States.
  • A nominal charge applies per "411" request.
  • Cox provides both primary directory listings and non-published directory listings within your local white pages.
  • Primary directory listings are provided at no charge, in the telephone directory published by the local telephone carrier within you local exchange area.
  • Non-published directory listings are available upon your request.
  • Your name, address and telephone number are not published in the telephone directory or street address directory and are not obtainable from the directory assistance records available to the general public.
  • The Directory Assistance charge applies to each call to the Directory Assistance Operator.
  • Up to two requests may be made on each call to Directory Assistance.


International Directory Assistance

Unfortunately, International Directory Assistance is not yet available you can do the following options to obtain international directory assistance

  • Dial 1-800-CALL-ATT after the recording, dial "0" and request International Directory Assistance. Charges will be billed to the number you're calling from. (touchtone only - rotary will not work).
  • You will need to set up a BNA (Billing Name and Address) in order to get billed.


Busy Line Verification / Interrupt

  • Busy Line Verification / Interrupt is currently available only in California and Oklahoma, and only for calls between one Cox customer and another Cox customer.
  • If it is an emergency you may want to dial Directory Assistance and they will contact local law enforcement agency in the area you are calling.


Types of Calls

  • Station to Station Calls: Calls completed with the assistance of an operator to a particular station. The call may be billed to the called party.
  • Person to Person Calls: Calls completed with the assistance of an operator to a particular station and person specified by the caller. The call may be billed to the called party.
  • Collect Calls: Collect calls provide you with the capability to charge a call to the called party. On the operator announcement of a collect call, the called party has the option to refuse acceptance of charges in advance or when asked by the operator.
  • Third Number Billing: Calls made by third number billing provide you with the capability to charge a local call to a third number that is different from the called or calling party. The party answering at the third number has the option to refuse acceptance of the charges in advance or when asked by the operator.
  • General/Directory Assistance calls: A live operator assists the caller with general inquiry information such as dialing instructions, country or city codes, area code information, and Cox Customer Service numbers (611).
  • Emergency Assistance calls:  A live operator transfers the caller to the appropriate ten-digit emergency service number as provided by Cox.
  • Busy Line Verification calls: A live operator determines if the called line is clear or in use, and then reports the condition back to the caller. This verification is performed only for one Cox customer calling another Cox customer; and only in California and Oklahoma markets.
  • Busy Line Verification and Interrupt calls:  A live operator determines if the called line is clear or in use, and then reports the condition back to the caller. Upon request, the operator interrupts the called line. Verification and interrupt are only performed in California and Oklahoma markets; and only for one Cox customer calling another Cox customer.
