Here's how to switch from AOL to Cox High Speed Internet:

  • Sign up for Cox High Speed Internet Service.
  • Contact AOL and stop your billing!
    • From AOL's Website: To change your current AOL plan, simply call Member Services at 1-800-984-6207 and select the Billing Option when prompted.
  • Launch AOL!  Your AOL software should automatically connect through the Cox service.
    • When you access AOL through Cox High Speed Internet, it will be faster than you've ever experienced before.  If you have issues, just follow these steps to access AOL using your cable modem connection:

Windows Users:

  1. On the Sign On screen, click "Setup".
  2. On the AOL Setup screen, click "Expert Setup".
  3. On the Locations tab in the Connection Setup window, click "Add Location".
  4. In the Add Location window, click "Select a custom connection" (for example, TCP/IP) and click "Next".
  5. In the Name box of the Add Number (Connection) window, change the default name for the new connection to "Cable Modem Connection".
  6. Select "TCP/IP: LAN or ISP (Internet Service Provider)" from the Connect using: list.
  7. Select "Cable Modem" from the Automatic Connection Script list. Click "OK".

Macintosh Users:

  1. On the Sign On screen, click "Setup".
  2. On the AOL Setup screen, click "Expert Setup".
  3. On the Location Setup screen, click "Add TCP".
  4. Click "OK" then "Close".
  5. Select proper Location (TCP/IP) then click "Sign On"
